I read a different info:
Most likely the tail broke off...look, clean cut on top where the seams are...then the rest broke off.
And since it had a tail strike before, the possibility is very high it is due to this.
Happened 2 times before they said.
And no signs of an explosion in the cargo area, the bags where all ok...would look different with a blast.

btw talking about Ras Sudr, I was there about 5 years ago. There were two kite stations back then, the one with the lagoon and then the French owned one further upwind of that. We did a downwinder the one time and on our way to the lagoon we got shot at from some boat out at sea. Just heard the shots and bullets overhead. Luckily nobody got hit.
Everybody immediately turned to the beach and we headed back to the kitestation. Never found out who it was but it was speculated that it was either rich egyptians having some fun or smugglers that we got too close to. Still miss that station though.

strange. maybe the military! we had to ask for permission from military for sending a small boat to the outer point of the lagoon with the event organizers to start the downwinder race from there
Now there are several stations...but the only one on the private lagoon is in the Green Hotel, called Kitesurfing Village, run by Italians. All nice people there, had a great time.

Latest conclusion from the UK Government is that it was a bomb planted on the plane by Islamic State.
They will have to get the airport security up to a high level before I will be flying to Sharm again.
eldadgold turns out to have been right. Maybe Israel had quicker information gathering than the UK?
Anyway, I think its always best to wait until there is evidence before believing something.
If that was applied by everyone, we wouldn't have the god-based religions - or the problems that come with them.

It amazes me sometimes how people don't realize the real danger just because ignorance.
ISIS is like a storm.
You can have a nice beer on the beach in Ras Sudr and feel as safe as you can, but in a second everything changes.
Toby - when you were in Egypt/Sinai what security measures did you see ?
Did you see hundreds of troops ? tanks? armored vehicles ? checkpoints ? fences ?
Because all of those are the minimum to stop ISIS. take Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Northern Sinai for example....
Is it really woth it?
I have been to Brasil, and probably know more about the situation in sinai than all of you put together and still would rather go back to Brasil than go back to any part in Sinai.... If only a flight to Brasil was a bit cheaper.

You are right....sinai now is a dangerous place for tourist. but if you know brasil not even think that it is a safe place...it is FAR more dangerous than going to hurghada for example !

that's true the middle east gets a lot of attention from the press because of politics and the nature of the threat but purely speaking of life and death there are other cities that are just as dangerous or more that you just never hear about because violence is not related to politics but socioeconomic circumstances and lack of regard for human life. gotta kite some more to keep these negative thoughts outta my head

I went twice in El Gouna.
When you land in Hourgada and take a taxi to El Gouna you crossed some millitary check points.
Egypte has a strong army so it is doutbfull that you are at risk of beeing shot at by a ISIS commando.
On the other hand, it happend in Kenya. A islamic commando came from Somalia, crossed the border and kill some expatriates (including a old british lady)..
But a bonbe in an plane is something completly different.
I guess it is difficult to prevent specially it is planted by people working at the airport.
Bottom line:
Egypt, Kenya and Tunisia is out for kitesurfing for a long time.
Morroco (Dakhla) is OK (was there in july) but for how long ?
I guess cap verde is safe (never been there).
I am thinking about trying Israel. I do not know how is kiting there.
At least Airport security is very efficient and the Army very profesionnal.

dispite this tragedy, let's us be insensitive and politically incorrect for a quick while
The touriste leaving Sham now are only allow to carry hand luggage.
Can you imagine, the face of your girl friend that must leave all you nice clothes in the hotel.
Can you imagine your face, if you have to leave all you beloved (and expensive) gears at the kite station.

I am sad for the people that died, and sad for the hard working people of Egypt. Been to Elgouna 3 times and was always impressed by everyone's positive and diligent approach. Talked to guys working in hotel and at kite center. These are folks working hard, often away from families who are back in Cairo, and they are sending money home and working to have a secure future.
I went with my 6 month boy and when he was 6 yrs and last time was empty because of unrest in middle east.
It's such a shame these violent extremists can sabotage the hopes and efforts of people.
