I have made an article on kiteboarding and elbow pain. You can read it at KiteboardingExercises.com

The blue resistance is too strong for rehab, but good for strength training.
Choose the red or green based on your strength and degree of injury.

The Thera-band is the best rehab appliance for this exercise,
but you can experiment with piece of foam pool tube.
Yeah - should have mentioned that I also used the Thera-band during rehab and also alongside the "hammer" exercise I mentioned.

Basically you need to get your forearm muscles pumped so that they're capable of handling the strain of kiting and don't rely on the tendons to take up the slack!

Thank you all for tips! Seems like there after all is hope for me and all the other poor guys with hurting elbows after all =)

I had a session today and I used the stopper on the centre lines for the first times in my life, also very useful! I always thought that the stopper was for those with short arms. Me myself have monkey arms, so I can always reach the bar even if it's fully sheeted out. Never thought about using the stopper to lock the bar about halfway up on the throw. Perfect when you're just cruising =)

The problem that caused my pain was muscle imbalance from the forearms. Basically the bottom of the arm gets all the exercise, the top none. The exercise that Fred describes of rolling the weight up is good, the other one I like to do is reverse wrist curls, where you do the curl with the palm facing down. Both build strength on the top of the forearm which puts the muscles back in balance. Some of the other exercises described would only make thing worse for the injury I had. Traumeel cream is great for all sports injuries, it should help.

There are some rather less know yoga positions and exercises that are phenomenally good
for your wrists, elbow and hands... down to your fingers.
They are hard to describe and I cannot find any videos on them.
I will make a couple of videos and post them on kiteforum.
I'll post them as soon as I can.

I have shown them to friends that have hand and elbow problems and they all rave about them.
Hey Fred, did you ever end up posting/ finding these videos?

Thanks
Nils

Some very good info and comments posted so far. I had debilitating pain in my right forearm such that I could not kite at all. Now I am fully cured and can kite for 3 hours with no immediate pain and chronic pain is gone as well.

My path to cure as follows: To echo WindyWay, I started with the TheraBand routine. I believe this is a crucial first step. (do this exercise; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsKGbqA9aNo in case you missed it earlier ).
Then I worked my way up to the exercise as described by FredBGG with the wooden rod, great forearm building exercise.

Stretching and massage are great, and they relieve immediate pain, but they do nothing to address the underlying problems. You have to increase mobility and strengthen all the muscles of the forearm.

An additional exercise that I found very helpful, (and easy to do while driving), is wrist extensor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE9oZ2eVsMY this will balance out your forearm muscles from all the gripping exercises that you do. Finally, get a power ball gyroscope and train with it as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq-DqHd39Wc This will build strength and endurance in your forearms. Hope this helps.

It may be time to reconsider the feasibility of the "below the bar recoil type of device", which I described in the Feb 11, 2012 thread:

http//www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2374480

Here are some pictures of the device, (

The first tennis elbow I got lasted 6 months. When I got it second time I stumbled on Thera Band Flex Bar. Recovered in two weeks!!!

Do this and the tennis elbow will disappear (provided you have a common tendinitis):
https://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/ ... nnis-elbow
Regarding the time and repetition:
Hold for 40 sec (not just 15 to 30 as indicated) each time and repeat at least 4 times each session (alternating arms if pain in both), 3-4 times per day during two-three weeks
(must be persistent!).
Abstain from strongly contracting the flexors during the treatment.
Personal recommendation: Repeat the stretching session before and after kiting forever (in this case, after healing, only 30 sec three times is good for maintenance).
It worked for me and two other guys.
Why does it work:
Pulling the bar causes long term contraction of the flexors.
By pulling your fingers down, it stretches the flexors, releasing the tension on the tendon connecting to the elbow, which is the inflammation and pain cause .
