Where to find cheap kite lines?

I just noticed a small damage on one of the lines to a Cabrinha kite. The lines are quite new, so it´s a pity that one of them seem to have got scraped against some sharp object.

Anyway, I should probably replace this line, but $70 for a whole new line set is a bit to much imo. Lines in general are damn expensive... so I´m wondering if anyone perhaps know where you can find cheaper lines. I guess that anything that is as strong as kite lines will do =)

Learn To Splice

You cut off both ends of the damaged lines, splice in some other brand new line, and if you do it right you'll have 100% strength and the same exact line length.

Kite lines will never be cheap unless the raw material getrs cheaper some day, this dyneema sk75 or spectra is expensive.

I wouldn't do knots!
If you want to do it yourself, learn how to splice!

Otherwise... 70$ for a whole set of lines is actually not that expensive. Are they good quality?

I would still recommend splicing.

If you fly older cab lines; I would go for the new model; they are way better kite lines.

Q-line is the way to go, Never had a line break, if the ends start to wear, I just cut off and tie a new loop with a figure 8 knot. And No the figure eight knot will not weaken the Q-line, it is a whole different beast than the cheap Dyleema lines they put on bars, you can tie a knot in it and still untie the knot after a session, sand does not get in the weave cuasing wear. I find when I buy a new bar the cheap lines never last a summer, Never in 10 yrs of kiting have I replace a broken Q-line.

For $117 this is not a bad deal at all. I use the same lines on my Switch kites and they are awesome. Much better than my north lines since they dont wear so much.

I used to use q-line, but do not any more.
Anyone that knows anything about lines knows that a knot will weaken a line.
Even the recommended figure of 8 knot will weaken the line.

I have had Q-line break at the base of the knots. The knots also lead to tangling.
Also the sleaving on Q-line is abrasive and more likely you cut you.

There is a reason why it is not used by kite companies.

Main cause of lines being damaged is throwing/dropping your lines on the beach.
If the line hit tightly wrapped on the bar hits a sharpish rock or shell it will put a nick into it and initiate damage.

Always handle your lines with care. Don't tread on them on the beach etc.

Proper rigging and repairing is done with splicing and sleeving.
