Must have been Janey Smith's older brother Todd flying a Wipika 5.0 and riding a stop sign.

Ram airs simply can't compete with inflatables because.... they ARE aerodynamically inferior.
Pumpy.
For the newcomers here who don't know how Pump Me Up looks like, here he is after farting his usual hot air:

flying sleeping bags...... love it.

although i must say (not really in defence of the foil kites, coz i really want some foil kiters to respond here :D plus im an avid LE kiter ) foil kites are generally used on land, not water.
There are all the responses from foil riders you need in this forum.
If you are genuinely interested to know how foils compare, the best is that you try the latest generation of foils and make your own opinion.
If PMU ever tried a foil kite, it must have been 10 years ago, so his opinion is totally uneducated.
Here are the first impressions of pro LEI kite rider in conditions riders are unaware Flysurfer kites excel as well; strong and gusty (other reviews in the blog as well):

Rode foils for years, worst decision I ever made. Held back my kiting for a good half a decade.

Without more details, your opinion looks quite uneducated. What kite were you using?
You are joining the ranks of PMU wananbes whow don't know what they are talking about.
In many regions, not having a big foil will hold you back kiting at all.

This is a good point, and I have to agree. Superior flying characteristics is the only reason to put up with the complex bridling and possible water filling of foils . I flew a Speed 3 for awhile, and it is flys great. But I got tired of bridling hassles. If there is one place foils should prove their worth, it's racing. But its' just not happening. I was considering a Speed 4, but I think the LEI's have at least caught up if not surpassed the foils in light wind performance.

they haven't surpassed, that's for sure.

But they ARE getting better.
