If you have a kayak or a boat go to Cas Cay (east side), its shallow, flat water and you don't have to dodge sailboats anchored everywhere. Launch is a little tight, but so is everywhere on that island.

Always wanted to try and kite Hull Bay on the North Side, anyone ever try?

Only place to kite in St. Thomas is Sapphire beach, Vessup beach, or the Ritz. If you have a dinghy you can do water launches but will have to be way out to avoid wind shadowing. Hull bay is too blocked by headlands. If you really want to kite in the VI's you have to go to Virgin Gorda, Anegada, or St. Croix. These islands have many spots because they have open windows to the wind. I have lived all over the VI, currently residing on St. Croix. Feel free to ask questions.

Tang
IMO sapphire is a crowded tourist trap with major wind shadow
I've heard vessup as another spot but like you say the wind shadow is there as well plus it appears to b a big mooring spot. I typically kite coralita in st Maarten but am open to other spots
I think once again I'm going to bag at Thomas and dive there instead
If u know other spots on st Maarten either fr or nd side let me know
Thx

Hi TangTonic,
I am thinking about going to St. Croix in my honeymoon next year in late september (24th/25th). Is this a good overall period to go? Is it good for kiting? Which are the best beaches in St. Croix to kite?
Thanks a lot!

Absolutely, Sapphire and Vessup are crowded and not great locations. Truth be told, St. Thomas is not a good place for kiting. I am not familiar with STM.

St Croix has several spots but September is not a good month, that is when tropical storms and hurricanes come through and cause a disruption of the tradewinds. June/July or December - March are the best times.

Yeah get with Bill Kraft with kitestcroix.com, nice guy, and he will show you where to kite in St. Croix and hook you up with lessons, rentals, anything else you may need.

I've been to all of the USVI's and St. Croix is definitely the best for kiting, mostly on the East End, definitely rent a car. I haven't been in September, but pretty much anytime from now until July is pretty consistently windy.
