downloop is simply a harder redirect and you keep looping the kite. I don't think it matters if you start the loop to late. you simply complete it after yourve landed. quite often my kite is 3/4 the way round when i land and still get a soft landing.

e.g.:

jumping to the right:

kite is left of zenith before landing: downloop it (pull right hand)

kite is right of zenith before landing: kiteloop it (pull left hand)

If you are 8m high, and the kite is forward or in front, means to the right of the zenith, and you get forward speed and are about to crash hard, you send the kite backwards to a kiteloop, by pulling the bar left side. The kite will loop above you (helicopter loop), and bring you under the kite again for a smooth landing.
I really needed those once, when I was lit on a 14 sqm kite in gusts up to 35 knots. Well I jumped 14m high, but when the kite was forward, I would have broken everything in my body...but looping it backwards made me land as soft as can be.

Try it next time when you are about to get busted with a kite too far forward to land soft...and you will see what happens!

I figured the theory was something like that but... working up the guts to try it out when (you feel like) you're miles up is another matter :thumb:

Now, if we just had some wind...

I will definitely practice this in 2 weeks in Cuba, thanks for the advice.

Not too big this day but just donwloop your landings - very easy and you can also use it to do massive jump transitions :thumb:

go for it :thumb: like everyone's said - loops on the way down from a jump are not scary at all - only thing that can go wrong is if you chicken out half-way (maybe put both hands on one side of the bar for the first few  )

looping BEFORE the apex of a jump is a different matter :o

(hey JohnB - that was fun to watch :) )

Hi,

I think it is wrong to learn looping during big air while on holiday in Cuba.
Learn looping at home where you know where your next hospital is. Too many times I have seen things went wrong while looping (especially if never done before). Looping should be learned from scratch and not when jumping high.
Just my 2 Cents.
Enjoy your holiday mate.

Cheers
