Kitecamp Canary Islands in May

Hey guys,

Im an advanced beginner, just learned to go upwind (most of the time) :-?

I want to make a trip to the canary islands in May to push my kiting to the next
level. Would appreciate recommendations to good camps as there are a
lot, and which island is the best. I think Lanzarote should be fine but maybe
Fuerteventura is an option as well.

Im located in Frankfurt so Spain itself might be an option but I think
canary is best for May.

Thanks,
Simon

Why not visit us here in Portugal?

We run camps in Esposende, northern portugal. Take a ryan air from frankfurt straight to porto, we pick you up at the airport, and then you progress in our protected river or in the waves on the oceanside. You stay in our house, together with us and the rest of our guests.

Just a suggestion =)

Fuerteventura is way the better Island for a rider at your level. In may the trades may already have started and the wind will be very strong (30 knots+) on Gran Canaria and with the Northerly direction that only works on Pozo, Vargas and some other non-beginner spots (rocks and boulders).

Fuerteventura has more sand, a better variety of beaches and less wind (you will still have enough, no worries...). Alternatively you can catch a flight from Gran Canaria directly to Dakhla where beginner conditions are perfect.

I live and sail on Gran Canaria and love the place but you it is nothing for a beginner in the summer. My wife learned to kite the last two years and even though we live on GC we travelled to Dakhla and Fuerte for her to learn as I thought it to dangerous and inefficient to learn at home.

Depends where you go on Fuerte.

In the North the wind is consistently over 15 Knots sideshore. If you are mobile and can move between Flag Beach and Cotillo (15minutes driving) you should have wind every day. Most used kite sizes are 9 and 12.

In the South the wind is Strong and gusty. Usually 30 knots plus and offshore. Sotavento is one of the gustiest places in the world.
