I'm practicing Karate for quite some years, and when I wipe out, I only have to keep my eyes on the board. Those Karate defense reflexes also work in the water and against boards. Funny to see your body acting on its own.

Yes pushing the bar away is very important too, long throw bar helps. I have been tangled quite a few times neck/head, hook, harness, wrist, but by far the scariest was getting dragged by my ankle, that one I thought was game over. At the first break both hands went in to get that line off irrespective of losing fingers. The one around my neck was a close call it pulled tight and off as I pushed it to the tops of my ears. There is definitely an extreme element to kiting in waves.

And now back on topic.

I use this Liquid Force bag for my 5.4 Vanguard. The board just fits and I can put some padding at the ends for extra protection.
In Canadian airports I have no problems at Check-in.
In Maui the attendant pulls out his tape measure and says I am 1.5 inches over the limit!!!!
But since I was travelling Business class he said he would just give me a warning and put the bag through.

Thanks but I'm approaching this from a quad setup, not a thruster! I've found a source for a single YU center fin in the US, but shipping is more than the fin itself :o . So I keep looking in the EU for the moment.

Heard that Firewire is no longer producing the VG in kite construction, instead focusing on the VD. Is this true?

No, as confirmed by Felix Pivec.

@topmuck too bad it didn't work for you, fortunately it does for others. Haven't been on the Vader & I think Evo's not available yet in Kite construction?

Btw you had issues with the Vanguard lowend, iirc? Did you size up on Vader?

You should diffentiate more  , the suitability of a board is very much depending on the spot where you use it, and your skill level.

Maybe in YOUR conditions, YOU prefer the vader or the evo.

I can't judge the Evo, but between VD and VG, I prefer the Vanguard in our conditions, as it is the more efficient board, so I get more waves/session.

OK, sorry didn't mean to offend - I do regret not trying the VG as a quad. This is how I prefer the Vader & makes a huge difference on performance IMO.
