Back hand on kite bar, front hand on front strap of foilboard, either tail out or head out, fly superman style just like a regular surfboard.

Thanks, I tried that and many other variants but didn't make upwind so well. I knew conditions were poor for the effort, dead onshore with waves but decided to see if I could edge out anyway. One of the things I tried was to edge out feet in the straps but foil inclined off the bottom try to to make to deep water. Even that didn't work surprisingly, it just wouldn't make to windward that much. Should clock side shore in a couple of days and will have at it again.

The key word is "onshore" wind that prevented you from going out.

Yes, I suspected it would be an ordeal/waste of time but it was my first opportunity to go out and try it so I did. I spoke to Damo about it after and he said these rigs body drag upwind very poorly worse with waves, if at all. Of course they go upwind very well when planing. So, use side to side onshore wind or don't bother with a beach launch particularly with much in the way of waves running.

I like to think of the foil in the water as an anchor. when the shore break hits it, it will be pushed back to shore. The Hawaiians had outriggers thousands of years ago. It forces the wind to go side ways. The Sailrocket uses the same concept.
