I also do not agree about the fish not being a good LW board. I own a Nugget 2012 and an Fone Fish 5'10" 2013 and the Fish is slightly better in ultra LW (below 10 knots). I think it is because of the thickness of the Nugget, it start to create to much drag in very low wind and you cannot get enough board speed to compensate for it while the 5'10" Fish glide much better in very low wind and can continu to ride when I can't do anything with the Nugget, maybe just 1 or maximum 2 knots difference but when there is a lot of lull I prefer to be on my Fish. However when there is a lot of gust, I prefer to be on my Nugget as it perform much better in higher wind or I should say in slightly overpowered conditions. I ride them both strapless.

Fish tails are so old fashion ...and give no advantage for LW
Take your F-one and shorten it to 5'0" and put a fish tail on it and the Nugget will blow by it
Only reason you have more glide in lulls is the waterline of your 5'10"
If fish tails were efficient for LW we still would have picklefork design TT's
If fish tails were efficient for LW they would be on all modern raceboards too

Too many fish stories out there about fish tails

And you wonder why people don't give you respect? Here is a guy who has a nugget and a fish and from his actual experience (not theoretical) he gets slightly better lw performance from the fish.

But you don't take that into consideration. You think you know everything about everything, and everyone else is somehow ignorant. Douche.

SupaEZ - if you can get anyone to agree with you I might be persuaded. There's too much real world kiteboarding experience here to argue with. Following your logic racers would all be on Nugget styled boards. Fins are different, straps are used, etc... Cutting Fish boards down to match the Nugget's size would defeat the supremacy of the longer/bigger Fish's design.

While it's certainly possible that the best racer on the best race board on the lightest wind day could have the gear to get upwind faster and farther than any accomplished light wind sailor, that doesn't translate to a Nugget being better than a large Fish for light wind. I take Seb's word: Fish will out perform Nugget in low winds because of size and shape. But bring the wind up a little bit and I'm sure a smaller Nugget would takeover in the fun factor.

All i am saying is that fish tail design is useless for LW
The new 5'6" Nugget 2014 will blow all fishes out of the water....EZ like shooting fish in a barrel

:surf:
P.S. thanks for not lowering yourself to name calling :thumb:

supa,

i have watched you either discredit or marginalize virtually everyone's opinion on this forum for a couple of years now, unless of course it is 14toeside. if you dont like being called a douchebag then stop acting like one.

maybe you aren't this way in person, I really dont know. but based on how you communicate here i am glad i dont know you. i am not the only person to say this about "SUPAEZ".

i get on this forum to have positive discourse with other kiters about our great sport but folks like yourself obviously get on here to live out some weird superiority complex.

you may have accumulated some knowledge of weather, gear, and watersports in your years but wisdom has completely eluded you.

i am no longer going to be commenting on this thread so it can get back to the subject at hand.

feel free to have the last word supaEZ

How about the over-all fish shape?

I see Naish has dropped the Bullet from the 2014 line-up . . . which looks line a surf-raceboard to me.

The Nugget works for a number of reasons.
I would guess the major ones are:
Very wide width
Lack of rocker
Volume
...the specific shape of the tail may come into play, but I would guess to a lesser degree.
There are great directional (surf) boards for lightwind kiting using several tail shapes.
SS Dialer has a fish tail.
Wainman Gambler has a swallow tail.
Airush Slayer has a square tail.
Nugget has a round tail.
