or you can just use the chickenloop again, maybe just make it a bit shorter. haven't really lost the loop after all that work haha.

I sort of agree with the above. Half the issue is the heavy chunk that is the average CL release. That slingy one is one of the heaviest on the market. I would keep a close eye on the metal portion at either end of what was the original loop. The direction of force may have changed in your shortened set up and those can bend and crack. Its been known to happen in the past with Slingy chicken loops let alone altered set ups.

To truly get rid of the loop, the BRM system is simple clean and light. The integrated leash is another major plus. I'm not sure why so many kiters insist on reinventing the wheel, when someone has already set a perfect example.

The need to make a system as short as humanly possible is also puzzling. The ergonomically ideal bar position is not really that close to the body, especially for surfboard or foil where there is a need for one handed riding.

hi Starsky goood information about the possible point of failure. I agree with you about Slingshot is not the best chicken loop in the market. I am a new customer to slingshot bar and kites. So far I like the bar and the sst kites. I will report back in a few months how the modified set up is holding. I have seen the BRM system. It is in my bucket list of toys. My idea to shorten the connection to the bar is to have a arm length depower system. I don't jump so my setup doesn't need to be as strong to hold my body weight. cheers

As to the not jumping thing..... it still needs to be plenty strong. Lots of high load moments be they on purpose or not. Glad you considered routing around the ring. It's just not meant to be a link.

Depends on your riding style and harness.
With a seat harness the reach to the bar is longer when the kite is low in the window.
Being able to stall the kite is useful to reposition the kite in the window as well.
So a short connection allows me to still have another 2 inches of travel past the 100% power point.
Also, if you like to ride very powered, the average trim is around 50% depower. That is where it needs to be for me, and why the shorter the connection the better.

But for sure, your mileage will vary depending on harness type, board type, riding style, etc.

Half the fun is figuring out what works for you.
And it's great when your gear does not limit your options.

The metal ring has no use except hooking the kite leash when I'm not using it.



I trade it for a regular hook harness from time to time as I enjoy surfing unhooked in cross shore wind.
