What is the weight of the paipo and shinnster?

Hi Guys,

Can you carve a solid bottom turn and off the lip on the paipo similar to a surfboard?

I only have a DIY version of the paipo (but quite close in dims and rocker) and I can carve plenty hard with it. I use "big" 2.5" fins on it which gives it enough grip to avoid sliding out accidentally if I'm clumsy. You can really slash tight turns with it and also set the rail and drive a long turn. On the top side though it will release and slide easier than a thruster for sure. Have not taken it above the lip really except exiting the onshore mush I typically play in. It will probably not snap at the top like a regular surfboard, unless you really put some fins on it like a short board, but what you can accomplish personally plays a role in that too.
In flat water and chop i have had many knee buckling carving downwind runs. Try it you might like it.

I have a Paipo. I found that setting the rail is key to carving turns. Once you do, you can carve pretty hard. I haven't tried it in proper waves, just wind swell. If you stand on the board and try to make gentle turns it can skate out, but if you dig the rail in, you're good. Basically, don't rely on the fins as you would with a surfboard - instead use the rail.

The board has been put in the wet by a mate who had a day off this week (hence the wax on the deck)
He was impressed by the light wind ability, going upwind effortlessly when others with regular surfs were struggling. Condition was 15-17 knots, flying a Naish Pivot 10 (very nice kite as well, I am currently waiting for a couple of Pivot to arrive ), he is 80kg.
Due to the TT/Snowboard construction he suggested me that for a better comfort a full deck pad would be a better option than wax. I will decide after a few run with the board.

Currently questionning myself how this board will fit in my quiver. Will it be my main board as reported by some on the forum?… will it be a complementary board for light wind days and shallow spots only? … will it be just a backup option when traveling to exotic spots (in complement with my Vanguard 5'4 which I love). Time will tell..

Hey Phil....and all you guys in England....I am on Oahu and do actually wish I could share a session with you all today (over there). We have 3 to 5 foot surf here today and 3 of us are leaving our regular kite surfboards at home going out together on our BRM Paipo's. It is great fun in those size waves.

We thought about applying pads. My feet can get pretty sore after several pounding days on most surfboards. But the Paipo has flex and cuts more smoothly with less chatter....so I find my feet don't get sore (of course we spend most of the time barefoot around here so our feet are pretty tough).

I think though maybe because the BRM Paipo shows the natural wood we are probably swayed to use only wax so we can keep the wood look throughout.

I was curious if anyone in England tried testing an order of a BRM Paipo from Maui to see what the total cost would be (with shipping and ?duty) compared with the Shinnster. A natural paulownia wood appearing Paipo over there would be quite the distinct eye catcher....and would be the only one in England?
