there is quite a big difference for me - i have gone back to 24 after being on 20-22s for a few years - but now i am thinking of going back to 21 / 22s as am rarely underpowered and love the responsiveness and fast turning. Boosting big has taken a bit of a back seat really when it comes to line lengths.

I'd guess that when it comes to the shape (how C-ish) the kite is, the impact of line length is even less if you have pulleys? In that case there would be very limited impact besides stroke length.
My self I use 19m for 7-9m2, 23m for 12m2 and 27m for 17m2.
I cab say that in marginal winds with my 17m2 I experience a substantial improvement due to the increased stroke lenght with 27 vs 23m!

Apologies in advance fro what may be a daft question but do you normally change line lengths by adding identical extensions to centre and rear lines ?is it as simple as that?

yes. many brands are starting to come with shorter lines and extensions, rather than lines of one length. so where they used to come with 23m lines, it's becoming more common to see 20m lines with 3m extensions

Some kites (and sizes) just seem to prefer certain line lengths.
Longer lines give you a bigger window hand more time to build kite speed... more power from the longer stroke.
3m seems to be a standard size... 6m is a little too long. For whatever the company decides should be on the bar...

Only a "knob ed" resurrects a 3 year old thread.

Crikey - someone dug DEEEP
Just how long are 22 or 24m lines ? Possibly 23 or 25m - measure your Leader line length and it adds up to ?????
