Indeed super smooth. I think it works well as a 3rd person view follow but as POV the absense of shake kind of make the footage less dramatic. You can always add natural shake back though
Did you check out those guys: not a gimbal but probably closest thing you can get to a waterproof gimbal, I think you can get a gopro case backdoor extension to fit their device:
