a new type jam-cleat ?

Postby Bille » Fri Apr 10, 2015 6:51 am

Wonder if this would work, for trimming our kites ?
It's suppose to be a bunch better on the cord that's being cleaded ; won't wear
out as fast.

I wonder what happens when the sock gets clogged with sand. You might be able to pull the sand out when depowering, maybe not when powering up.

It's still difficult to see exactly how it works.

Is it just some tapered slotted plastic inside a tube? or does the cloth tube reduce in diameter as it lengthens?

It needs to be kept under tension otherwise it releases.
With the kite, there is the possibility of slack lines releasing the depower.

i stumbled upon this great invention a while ago and made a double cleat for my kiteboat :-)

i need to lock the kite mount traveler in both directions and release it in both directions. it doesn't become simpler to build and simpler to use than with this construction. constrictor construction.

What type of material was the braid of your constrictor made of ? I'm thinking
of getting rid of the hook & ring at the top of my mast on a Hobie-21se ; use
this devise instead.

I like that it would not wear but
1. it needs to be under tension or it may lose trim
2. You would need two hands to adjust trim, one to remove the tension and the other to adjust the trim.... maybe you could attach the release line to end of the trim rope? Not sure how that would work out but....
3. your center line split would need to be at least the length of the constrictor further away then using a standard cleat.
Nice to see different products though.
