Atlanta kiting

Postby cmac_spartan » Wed Jul 22, 2015 2:35 am

I just got my first set up and I am looking to start kiting on Lanier. I can ride upwind both directions and I am working on learning airs currently.I was wondering where the best place to launch is or if I should just drift launch, and where the best spot is to ride? I am a member of the LLSC if anyone knows where that is and if that is a good part of the lake to ride in? Also, are there a lot of kiters from Atlanta? Thanks for your help.

I am interested in learning to kiteboard. Is there anyone in the Atlanta area who participates in this sport, and would be willing to let me tag along and see what it is like? Thanks!

Check https://windsportatlanta.com/ Their club windsurfs on Lake Lanier and they have a Kiting section on their forums. They used to be "windsurfatlanta.org" but I guess they let the kiters in now too. :D

I started in Augusta and kited Lanier once. Now I live in TX.

I would strongly recommend learning to get up wind before riding Georgia lakes.

The fingers in the shoreline turn a walk of shame from yards into miles.

My parents live in Anderson, but I've never considered taking my gear home to kite on lake pcb.

Lake Lanier
North of Atlanta Georgia

Vanns Tavern Park or Old Federal Park depending on wind.

There is also a FB group Atlanta Kiteboarding.

^^^What Clew In said. I've trained a number of Atlanta area folks to kite due to our proximity/beginner-friendly learning area and always point them on to Atlanta Kiteboarding FB group. Good bunch of people to kite with and will likely provide whatever helpful support you'll need. :thumb:
