Idk, my experience differs a bit from above. I found the Vader to be more power hungry and needs more wind to plane than the Vanguard. If you live in a very windy area then you can go for the smaller size. However, if you often get lighter winds then I would recommend going up in size on the Vader. The Vader is AMAZING on waves, btw.

I have a 5'1" Vader on the way & a trip to OBX planned for July. I'm 170# (77kg). Any chance the Vader will also work for paddle surfing? - I know OBX doesn't typically get much swell in July & my paddle skills are almost 0. Would the small size make it way more difficult to catch & ride a wave given my circumstances? What kind of swell would work for this board for paddling in?

If you can't paddle it is almost impossible to use a Vader in any kite size to surf. Hire a soft-top locally to have some fun.

Guys (& girls), please help me!
I am 82 kg/180 pounds and I ride mainly strapless. Generally, low winds (lots of days at 6-10 knots, on my hydrofoil) and small swell/chop...
I really want to buy a Tomo/Fireware SB, for strapless freestyle/freeride, exclusively kitesurfing, considering the above conditions. No paddle/surf...
What board should I choose? Vanguard or Vader?
And what size, considering the light winds that we have here and max 2m waves?
Secondly, where can I find a suitable board, in FST construction, even used, to be delivered at 012071, Bucharest, Romania (EU)?
Many thanks for input/advise!

I'm about your size and ride a 5'4" Vanguard almost all the time. The VG has better low end planing than the VD so it's likely a better board for the conditions you describe.

hi everyone
,
i'm 76kg / level intermediate ( 5 years of kite ) and want to progress in freestyle mainly ...
i have for the moment a nugget 5'2 (28,9l ) but would like to sell it .
i kite mainly in light wind that means +- 70 % in 10/15 nds and 30% in 16/25nds
i have for my nugget a 15m fly naish ( 8/9 nds i kite ) and also use airush lithium 12 and 9 m ...
so with the idea that i 'd like to kite at 10 nds and that i want to sell my nugget ,
what the better size for me vader 5'3 or 5'1 ? or may be the 5'2 vanguard ?
thanks a lot ( i've to decide this very quick because i order to morrow ...)

Sorry, no. The VG is a MUCH better light wind board than the VD. The VD certainly shines in optimal conditions, but since tao didn't mention big waves the VG is a significantly better option. Less rocker, better planing and an all around better board until the waves get overhead and the wind is blowing 20+.
