holding pressure, how long?

Postby alford » Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:51 pm

As a test in my garage, once pumped up, how long should a kite hold pressure?

In the days before "one pump" some people used to keep struts inflated. Then one inflate only the flaccid ones. In my experience some bladders kept pressure for weeks.

It's a bit like saying how long will my cup hold water. If it hasn't got a hole in it, then a pretty long time.

I guess gas may diffuse out of the PTU eventually, but it would take days.

should hold air for a few weeks. since you are asking this question I believe you already know you have a pinhole because it went soft. If your kite is pumped up hard for 5 or 6 hours and only goes limp after a day I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, the pinhole will be too small to find.

Sometimes when I'm overpowered on my bigger kite I notice it goes a little limp at the end of the session and sometimes it does not. I'm pretty consistent with tightening the valve and making sure it is free from sand, but I always question whether there is a leak somewhere, but any normal session the kite holds air just fine... :?:

pumped it up and sprayed it with a soap/water solution, 1 pretty good sized bubble geyser and a couple other smaller ones all on the leading edge. $hit, it's an almost new kite, don't remember any hard crashes...
what cost can one expect on a repair like this?

Maybe a dollar or two and a couple hours of your time.If you're good an hour tops.
