Laughingman wrote:Ty, you never want to use your real name on a publicly searchable forum and/or website which does not offer privacy and security settings, everything you post could be used against you if there was ever someone who wanted to hurt you, judge you, hire you, fire you, marry you, divorce you, sue you, etc etc etc.... What you type in these little boxes would be tied to your name till the end of time, and there is no way to undo it.
That is why.
Nailed it

Yeah and since you don't like code names, why don't you give us your full name and place your from? We don't want to hide behind any code names now do we???

Dude! His full name has been used all over this and the french Canadian thread lately as well as his business name (his code name) and its location.

Most of the time I've seen the name on forums called a 'handle'. Some good reasons discussed. I've seen someone use someone's identify once and act quite professional for a while, then they went off on a tangent and made the real person look bad.

Because you have privacy and security settings, you can control what the public sees and if you want, what each individual friend sees. So I am not friends with my boss or my co-workers, therefore they cannot see what I post unless I purposefully post publicly. If I had a disagreement with someone I can remove them from being able to see what I post or what I had posted in the past... hell you can remove them from being able even find you profile page.

Big difference from a public forum to facebook

In a way, once people know who is behind the alias there is a great amount of trust shared. Many people know not only my name but who I am as a person, but there is a certain unwritten rule where you would never use someones full name on a forum. That is why it is important to conduct yourself accordingly.

Ding ding ding.

Facebook is for 14 year old girls, weird relatives, old grade school classmates that you didn't really wonder where they were, and full on creepers.
