we get the first production ones in the UK next week.
I hear Mark prefers the stubbo to the shinnster which says something - but he always loved skimboards too...
The board sounds like it has different characters with different fin combos (comes stock with 4x57 fins)
edit -
some of the UK guys tried the board (without foil) in Medano a few weeks ago when they were out there, reports came back favourable..

Hows the El Stubbo doing without a foil in the surf?

Better than a twin tip, worse than a surf board. Think of it in terms of a skim board and you won't be far wrong.

more surf feeling than a skim especially with 4 fins jumps strapless ok and pretty fun. great alternative to surfboard when there is a lot of seaweed and in shallow onshore conditions. also pretty much bullet proof mine is always in the truck.

The el Stubbo has some great and unique features
(at least in paper, I haven’t tested it but Shinn has an excellent reputation)
Since it has woodcore it’s much tougher than foamcores and it’s easier to waterstart, especially strapless.
At the other hand, woodcores in general have more flex than the foamcores and float less which is a disadvantage in lightwind conditions.
Compared to other woodcores (Cabrinha, North, Liquid force etc) It has a tiny bit less area, definitely less length and more width.
Not sure how does this translate to surface riding and touchdowns, can somebody compare? Anyway, it’s great for fitting in the car!
A few boards can be ridden with fins without foil and el stubbo is one of them.
Moreover with the stiffener it is supposed to give optimum flex for non foil use and get stiffer when foiling.
That is unique to Shinn and must be great for chop, mushy waves.
On the other hand unscrewing 8 bolts to get the stiffener out and screwing another 8 for the fins must be a bit cumbersome.
On some videos that I’ve seen with el stubbo foiling (with the stiffener) I can see some flex. (Not only with Mark riding it but also with a lighter guy)
I’m not sure how does this compare to other woodcores. Could somebody share his experience? It may just be the normal woodcore behavior. Is it really annoying or problematic if there is some flex? Why?
(It would be unfair to compare with foam cores)
I can’t see it in the site anymore. It seems obsolete.
Strange that it made it only for 1.5 seasons…
There is Shinnster which is better than el Stubbo without the foil and Jackson as a dedicated foilboard but el Stubbo was filling nicely the gap for somebody who was mainly foiling but wanted to be able to ride it with fins and wanted something shorter than the Shinnster.
Mark, I’ve seen you writing in the forum from time to time, it would be great to give us your inputs.
