I think you guys might be being a bit harsh - I know no German and Google Translate seemed to work OK for me ( with a bit of head scratching I admit!!)
agreed! Just grateful to have a free resource + plans!

I would love for this project(s) to succeed.

But, only the users base and traction can make it to survive. This is the reality. The best projects fail with no users traction. Put it this way, we have a significant board building knowledge blogged over the years.

The kite building has no blogs. Not a single forum exist. And that needs to change if anyone is thinking to attempt building. I did attempt, but stumbled on first step with the angle problem.

I see the plans like Bill of Materials. If they publish all plans from all brands, do we think ppl will start building it over the sudden?

The question is WHY? Why would anyone do it? Why would anyone build the board as well? We need to remember the mantra that demoing a kite/board is a must. With DIY you can't demo.

And that question is not answered by picking up the plans.

Trust me Kalli, I have the plans for number of boards, I can build one in no time. But have no motivation. There must be something more than just the money value. The "added value" maybe? That's different for all of us. For example, I remember a lady wanted to make a DIY board as a reminder for her passed brother. Because he wanted to make one but sadly passed away. That was the value for her.

Who wants a kite designer forum? I also run a webdev and hosting company and have been thinking of doing a kite design forum / sharing website

Sooo, when you pull the plug on your site, everything is gone? No thanks. Been there too many times.

This forum is fine. The problem is the traction...Just like with boards and HF's.

WTF are u doing man? That is VERY unprofessional..NO one is gonna trust again in kite industry if you start selling the blueprints..needless to say that you are going to be sued by the owners of the plans...

I have been around and seen what happens re kite design forums, other brands don't like them, and sooner or later the main guy running it gets into bed with a brand and shuts it down. I was thinking of a site that cant bribed/manipulated into being shut down.

Kite designers are very secretive, if you want to see faster kite design progression, then a kite design forum is needed that is not affiliated and cannot be coached into shutting down.

Re kite plans for sale, contact any kite factory and say you want to buy kite plans and they will have range of designs good and bad and many that dont fly at all. Only the brands have there own kite plans and no factory will make them available for anyone else as they will loose there largest clients. Factories are very protective of there clients, who there clients are and kite plans and IP, anyone offering plans of popular kites i feel is a scam.

The Russians amazed me with there ingenuity, making kites out of hospital bed wraps for bladders and ancient sewing machines.

That is funny. Earnestly, the china HF knock offs are selling like a cup cakes as you typed this. Why would I not trust whoever if china are selling copies.

The value of having plans available is ZERO.

theKD,

I don't know. Did anyone shut PanTau? Only him can answer.

Nothing is stopping anyone to start a blog or similar. To get the traction is completely different matter. And make it mainstream is almost impossible. We talking 5 guys on a Planet who would make a kite for personal use.

Hi all, My respect to topic creator!
Russians are here and ready to check the plans, test those, and give feedback. BTW we make kites, not only of wraps ;) I've got plenty of TPU film, and some good fabrics for several kites.

Have someone completed 17m Ventus yet?

I don't think so. I always recommend to start with the smaller sizes. I got a lot of good feedback about them.
But if you want I can also update the Ventus 16 to the Version 2
