SS Fuel 2017

Anyone try out the new Fuel yet?

SS really needs to do a better job editing their descriptions on their page.

I love how they say they eliminated the Nitrous Bridle but at the same time have two Kevlar patches to prevent bridle rub in addition to including Bridles in the package...

Optional 5th line is a good thing! Perhaps some discussion as to how that would affect the kite? No, can't be bothered?

Some seriously sloppy web page posting there.

I still have not plunked down money for new kites so a Fuel is an option I wanted to try out. Can't say I've seen a shiny new Fuel in the air recently though.

Interesting that the bridle is discontinued already, I thought a lot of people would like the two kites in one versatility of that idea.
I guess if somebody wants a Slingy with a bridle they will have to buy a Rally or Wave, but I would guess they are a lot different from a Fuel with a bridle.
I think Slingshot making mention of the 5th line is aimed at kiters who have experience on a Torch, Vegas, GP, HiFi, etc.
The HiFi 5th attaches at four points which makes it a LE support bridle.
The Torch has the short loop front attachment option (like the Wainman Rabbit front loop) aimed at people who want bridle like sheeting performance.
The Vegas 5th splits in two I think to make a sort of LE support bridle.
Years ago I had a 17.5M Slingshot Machine that had a fifth and it was a very good performing kite for me at the time.
Slingshot is selling 7 & 9M Fuel 2015's at a pretty good price on their website.

I am a big fan of my Torchies (the kite just not the bar/lines).

With no tension on the fifth at all, it flies terrible. It really needs that support on the front even if its only a weak/moderate support. Crazy thing is, I love the way it works in punchy winds compared to other kites. My RPM in Cape Town chanelled so much noise to me it was insane. My Torch - that fifth line bungee thing basically absorbed it all.

But lets be clear - is it simply a single attachment on the center for the fifth? Is it a mini-bridle ala the Torch? What is it? There is not alot of discussion.

You are right, it would be good if they were more clear about what they are selling at this point.
Pretty hard to tell from their website.
I bet I would like the Fuel 2015 bridled version.
My Blade Primes are a C kite shape/profile but they have a bridle.

They have a vast experience with the Fuel on 5th, many riders use it since several years now.
I personally don't like bridled C kites and I didn't like the Fuel on "Nitrous" or how ever they called it either. It's like the C4, it works so much better with direct connection and 5th line.

My point was, that Slingshot says in their description "eliminating the optional Nitrous bridle system that was included with the 2016 Fuel and adding a leading edge attachment point for riders who prefer a fifth-line setup" is written in their website description to notify the Torch, Vegas, GP, HiFi, etc kiters that they have fallen into line and joined the group of 5th line C kites again.

The difference is that Fuel can normally fly without 5th line
Torch, Vegas, GP, HiFi - don`t

And that is why so many see it as legendary! :)

I think they should have kept the Nitrous bridle option and have 5th line attachment point as well.
That way, you've got the same legendary Fuel that can be flown the original way, can be flown with the bridle for those kiters that like a C kite with bridle, and the kiters who want that 5th line can have it.
I would think it would make it a sale-able product to the most amount of potential customers.
But there must be a reason they dumped the bridle.....did they alter the shape/profile/anything to be able to have the bridle?
Or is it just the loyal past Fuel owners are unhappy that it exists with that option and sales went down?

Yes why did they stop making the bridle? It seems appealing to me. I like the fuel but considering I am only able to kite a couple times a month, the fuel really kicks my ass sometimes and I can kite for much longer sessions on an RPM. I was super intrigued by the bridle and curious as to why they stopped making it. Has anyone flown the SS Fuel with bridle? Any opinions?
