My 12 yo son just started a few weeks ago. We had one session with an 8 which clearly was too big and we downsized now to a 6 rally which now works much better. still low end wind is a problem as with most other kites but at least the kite relaunches well. And my son is a bit on the bigger size right now.

Actually finding the right combination of harness / flotation vest and helmet is the bigger problem. Right now one interferes with the other which is really bad. Every trip we find a different issue when we fixed another one.

SO my guess is that your sizes are a bit too big. G

Flysurfer Viron. Small foils in moderate winds are better than inflatos.

Also really easy to relaunch, far less death spiral risk.

You can even full deploy the kite (setup, inflate and drift launch) in deep water off a boat.

That is how I taught my son, out away from the crowd off a small inflatable bot with an 8hp motor.

He was going upwind after his 3rd water lesson.

When small kids kite you need to consider what could happen to them if they tangle with
and adult kiteboarder and how easily they could get lofted in a tangle and the adults kite goes into a death loop.

I find upwind with the Viron to be a problem as it sits crazy deep in the window. It will also need a lot more wind than a LEI kite of the same size.

I think the Viron shines for teaching light riders in windier conditions, above 15 kt.

Do your daughter a favour and get her a LF Solo. Trust me.
Take his advice. Trust me.

The LF solo is the perfect ticket. Comes in a 3.5 and 5 this year i think, 4.5 in 2016 and 2015. One strut so it's light, not super efficient so it's parkable while riding-sits a bit back in the window-doest outrun rider-doesnt take great skills to ride, and is capable of making any kiteboarder smile. And it'll be good for light wind training, training, and possible high wind foiling.

A 45kg friend learned on a 8m Rally and was really happy. It stays in the air at 5.5 m/s, relaunches are golden, power is smooth.
RPM is great but it's not a beginner/learning kite.

Teach on a door board and she'll be riding in a week time.

The Ozone Uno 4m is a great choice, combined with the Ozone compact bar which has a tiny chickenloop and a very short throw which is definitely a huge benefit to little kids. As a bonus using the thinner light weight race lines will add performance. What I really like about the Uno is that it can fly in light winds all the way to strong winds. The pull is very soft and light so very predictable and confidece building for kids.

Plus one for JoJo and Sombra.
Same experience. Shorter lines, 4 or 5 meter kites that drifts well. So wave kite, two or single stut or even strutless work well.
