78kg/5'11"/2017 Slingshot Rally 12m/16knots/side on mushy/30 minutes before the wind died
New board: Shinn Ronson 136 x 41
Old board : Shinn Monk Lover 135 x 42
Disclosures: none (but I'm a grandfather!)
Although 1cm narrower than the 42 wide Monk the 41 wide higher rockered* Ronson gets up and going at least as quickly as the Monk, is smoother, handles chop even better, just floats over the mush. Feels a good bit livelier and still goes upwind like a train in spite of the higher rocker. You can lock it in like the Monk but you can also slide it around and change direction much easier if you wish. The channels and concaves really do work!
Sorry Monk, move over, the new king is here - the Ronson!
* the Ronson is higher rockered on the rails than in the centre courtesy of the central double concaved channel with a touch of "V" which washes out before each end.

Sounds like a great board, if it's better than a Monk, that's impressive!

Should get out several times later this week when I'll know if the initial impressions are valid (for the way I use it). One thing I forgot to mention is that the Monk has 53mm fins whereas this Ronson has 43mm fins (don't know what fins larger Ronsons have).

Sounds great, I hope it performs UH at least as good as nobile NHP or better. Its a bit sad that most of the companies make freestyle boards for boots only or boots-focused. I miss the old hadlow freestyle board!

7m in 26-28 knots yesterday. At least as controllable as the Monk, just as good over chop, again no spray, feels a lot more lively, surfs much the same but a bit looser if you want it, and when the water flattened off as the tide went out it was far quicker. Put some Naish Apex straps on it, love them.

Interesting. Did you try the new ratchet shinn sneakers and not like them? Or are you just more comfortable with the Apex bindings (from your old board possibly)?

I really like the (ratchet) Sneaker SRS-1 with bare feet but when it got cold earlier this month and I had to wear 3mm wetsuit boots I just could not get my feet into them properly (I tried for 5 sessions). I have EU 45, UK 10-1/2 size feet. I now have the Apex straps because I can (just) get my feet into them OK with wetsuit boots (as well as bare feet, of course).

John - my feet are size 9 uk(43 EU) understand the straps are good for sizes 7 (41.5) to 11 (46). I am delighted with mine as I said I wish waist harnesses had the same system.
