Oddly I get away woth riding small sizes on the Torch despite weighing 250. Work the kite like an engine! To be fair I would never bother with a C kite under 20mph. I like my 8 and 10, want a 12 for low 20s. Wbelow that, its a suboptimal design - longer, skinnier, with wingtips for maneuver is what you need for light stuff.

If you need bigger than a 12, I highly recommend pivot turn kites (Naish Pivot, North Evo, etc) as pivot turns are much faster than full turns.

A 14m Torch would prob suck for lifht wind. Altho the Keys are super low air density, I lived off my Fat Lady when I used to hit Curry Hammocks.

Have a vegas 12 @ 80kg, can ride it and have fun in 16kn no problem with a 133 freestyle tt. If I take my 140 wakestyle board (high rocker) I need 1or2 knots more. a 12 that needs 20kn+ is a failed design or not really a 12.....

Depends on your weight. For me a 12 would suck under 20mph (18 kts) for any C kite design. Other designs, like a Rebel, offer alot more power in lighter wind and the wingtips let you maneuver faster to create more active power. Its less of a difference in higher winds.

80 kg = 176 lbs
113 kg = 250 lbs

Usually most kite brands alter the design for larger C kites to make it slack better, be more precise, have more bar pressure, and all around make a better wakestyle kite since thats what lightwind is good for on a C kite. At what point they do this depend son the brand. I ca tell you a Torch 10m is about 50/50 boost/kiteloop to wakestyle optimization. My 8m is like 75% kiteloop/boost with 25% wakestyle. THere is a wind range where I can fly both and the 8 always loops harder than the 10 (which should not happen as its faster due to size).

A 14m is a beast of a C kite. I would not be a fan. S. FLorida, where that vid was shot, is the only place I can imagine anyone ever wanting that. THe air density is so low there that you have to compensate with larger kites for everything. The opposite of Cape Town or the Gorge or Netherlands etc.

I'm currently using the 2017 bar on my 2016 8m that I haven't changed it. It works perfectly fine; however, you do need to adjust the front kite's pig tails to the length of the 2017's or the kite will oversheet a little.

I do think the 2017's bar is a major improvement over the 2016. It was a real hassle having to regularly tune it w/ the high Y and the line consistently stretching so much.

I'm happy to help you need help w/ the settings.

Hi LorenzoS do you feel flying characteristics changes using 2016 model on a low V configurations?
If yes, which and how.
I'm considering to buy a 2016/5 used Torch and using another bar I have with low V means save some money...if it works fine

Honestly I can only say good things about the low V configuration. I was skeptic at first since Naish/North had been doing higher Y configuration for a very long time but after flying back to back both configuration I prefer lower V bar setting even w/ 2015/2016 Torches.

Besides for all the obvious simple reasons of having now 5 regular lines of equal length, I find the kite to be more responsive and less sensitive to minor bar mistakes. The only downside that might be for some people is that kite turns slight less aggressively but the Torch isn't a wave kite to begging with so lower V only reinforces what the kite is originally designed for.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone new information about the problem with no power of the torch? eailer on I have had torch from 2013 and 2015. Both years where great, ok low end.
I have just bought a 10 and 12 With the new bar. Is the low end on 2017 worse?
Thanks

Spoke with a Naish rider about this, as I intend to change my 2015 14m with the new one. He said that there's no low end diff vs previous models.
BUT he advised me to add 10cm to the 5th line out of the bag.

I also hope, that this answers to the Octo's guess about team riders attitude, and also to avoid the use of clishees...
