Favourite Foot Straps & Pads Combination

Postby fat blokes can fly » Sat Jan 07, 2017 11:52 pm

So I'm not loving my current pad and strap combo, but liking my new board.

My current setup doesn't allow much movement on the pad meaning I have to twist more at the knee & hip on the given tack. I am also not loving my new straps, I prefer them to be a better fit rather than a snug elastic fit the neoprene (I believe) gives you on the Shinn straps.

What are your guys experiences on favourite strap and pad combo?

I want to know too. In particular the thickest, softest footpad combo. I've got a no name brand at the moment which i cant get again, They have super thick foot pads and are great for silly landings and smashing through chop.

If i can find something similar and even better ill be happy as a sandboy.....

Could not easily get wetsuit booted feet into the straps that came with the Shinn Ronson. Tried some Naish Apex straps which were OK but finally fitted some North Entity//NTT straps which will take wetsuit booted feet (they have two width settings which is great) and you can 'duck' them quite a lot. Will use the Naish Apex with bare feet only.

I have naish apex and like them. my shoe size is 10.5 43/44 and I fit easily with 2mm or 5mm booties.
Some of my friend with thick fit had to extend the strap at the local tailor.

Most people like naish apex, you can fine tune the strap with 4 attachment points, in addition you can move strap toward toes or ankle for better fit. If you want you can tune it pretty tight which will be super secure, your feet won't move at all or you can run it a bit looser to allow more movements if you like to adjust stance a bit when you ride switch.
Overall your feet are pretty secure even when riding with loose strap.

Comfort wise there are different opinion, I think they are pretty comfortable but not as soft as my stock pad. I haven't tried the softer foam insert yet.
It comes with 2 foam pads insert that you can switch under the pad. One is soft and one is hard.
I have a friend who hated naish apex because he found that even the soft foam insert was too hard.
I am using the hard insert and when riding barefoot in summer hard landing can be pretty tough, I have bruised the flesh under my heel on a hot kiteloop landing last summer.
