Fast turning boosting kites

Postby pikovsg » Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:21 am

Is there a kite that boosts as well as a Rebel and turns on a dime?

I ride a Rebel but it's so damn slow compared to the BRM Cloud kites I foil with. Only problem with the Cloud is they don't boost well at all.

You're asking for a Cadillac ride and Ferrari handling. The two are pretty much mutually exclusive. A low aspect kite turns faster, but a high aspect kite has better lift. Just the nature of the two airfoils. The Caution Spitfire and the OR Razor that I fly turn really fast, the cloud is a total dog by comparison (I've flown it), but the nature of the boost is much different than a high aspect kite. It's all about speed and positively ripping you off the water, but then there's not much left after the initial hit.

Do you want float with your boost? If not the C/Hydrid C will be the way and the light!.... But you will need to be powered to get max boost on those kites.

If you want float and boost and fast turning you will have to sacrifice some height and float for turning speed. More truning speed = lower aspect = less struts lighter weight, less boostage

You can't have it all. You need to rob Peter to pay Paul.

Just search for the kite that sits somewhere between rebel and cloud that has the least compromises for your riding style.

Maybe also look at kites with a thin leading edge like the LF Wow?

Rebel with the back line pigtails knot back in the rear position turns very quickly. Do you have the pigtails set on front knot?
Also swapping the bar for a longer bar will speed up the kite.
Also since Rebel is high aspect-ish, poor bar technique can slow turns down because one of the tips stalls for a second, then catches up. Don't yank on one side of the bar with the outside back line slack , that causes tip stall. Turn the bar like a steering wheel with some tension on the outside line, the kite will turn much faster.

12m Flite is a very nimble kite and has good boost.

Core XR4 also is very nimble and may boost as well as Rebel.

Blade trigger. I used to have rebels but the trigger is much more fun, turns in a dime and can boost you like a rebel.

Perfect! I have it set on the first (yellow) knot, for less "direct feel". Should i set set it for the knot? What does that do?

Dude, what? Has no one ever taught you how to tune your kite?

Set your kite up. Fly it overhead. Sheet all the way in. If it doesn't start to back down in 1- 2 seconds shorten your back pigtails an inch. Repeat. You want the kite to gently back stall in 1-3 seconds when fully sheeted in on the beach. Simple.
