first day I wore impact vest I injured my rib from spreader bar attachment hook hitting me. I wonder if the vest made it worse because it moved the harness on a bad spot. It was doing a simple backroll with speed landing flat on ribs...
I have injured my ribs a few times and I think it was always from harness.
I have removed the attachment hook and now simply attach the harness using the strap directly, one less thing to poke me in the ribs.

It's been my experience that most, if not all impact vest are not properly designed to help with preventing broken ribs. All vests that I've seen have plenty of padding everywhere, BUT in the under arm rib area. They all seem to want to connect the front padding area with the back padding area in the rib area. Which turns out to mean lots of seems and stitching but no or very little padding covering your ribs. Duh.......

The ION Vector impact vest which I wear
does have under arm rib protection. You can see it in this picture.

my bottom ribs are funny shape and kind of stick out underneath near spreader bar, that's where I get injured.

I wear an ION Echo seat harness.
Edit: with a Dynabar V7 as Bille says in the next post.

Forget that fricken spreader bar ; get a dynabar-V7 or equivalent, and that soft
cord will do WAY less damage , when Ya hit the water, or your board.
Thanks 321 Kiteboarding & Watersports retail shop and school located in Cocoa Beach,
Florida ; that Dynabar V7 Ya sponsored me with, saved me a Bunch of pain from crashes !!!
