Well.... I can get the board off. How do you get it back on?
Tail grab and it slips out of my fingers.
I wear a seat harness so grabbing the handle is almost impossible.
Is there some sort of technique? I watch Nick Jacobsen do a board off in a swimming pool... he makes it look so simple. He has lose foot straps I assume. What else?

It is easy. I have a seat harness too and get it back on in no time.
I assume you go down to the board instead of lifting the legs up?
Go to
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/airstyle and get the "boardoff" section.
Explained in detail how to do it.
With the Vimeo app you can also download the section.
Or get the DVD on the "Airstyle" app in every App Store.

Hang bar on a tree and practice. It will take a few days
Then take it to water

many people glue a piece of rubber or styrofoam to the board where your thumb would be..

Yes, you could.
But a good handle or rail grab are much better.
