Hello everyone. New to the forum but not new to kite surfing. I'm an avid kitesurfer going on 6 years now and can't get enough time on the water. I'm currently aggregating data on the kite surfing industry and wanted to know if anyone has any links to databases, articles, or just general knowledge tucked away in their head regarding the number of active kitesurfers there are world wide. Publicly available sales data would be helpful as well. Any information anyone can provide would be very helpful in my research as I build a go to market strategy around a new product I am currently developing.
Once I get to the prototype stage I will reach out to the community here on Kiteforum for some feedback and suggestions on my product before I go to develop the prototype. This product will be made specifically for kitesurfers both new and advanced. I promise it will be something simple, innovative, inexpensive, and something every kitesurfer will want/need.

I have heard of those estimations before, I think they looked at the number of license, sales and extrapolated around those.
25000-30000 in France

25000-30000 in USA (I remember hearing it was about same as France)
30000 in Germany, maybe more I don't quite remember but I think it was higher than France.
I bet Northern Europe has a bunch as well looking at those numbers...

I think you may find that the quality of your market research is going to be directly proportional to how much you paid for it.

Get in touch with GKA, Global Kitesurf Association.
They should have the most accurate numbers.

Is 9% bad?
I assume the percentage gets less and less since the market gets bigger and bigger?

I understand that the worldwide market for kites in 2016 was estimated by the Global Kitesports Association at 150,000.
The GKA is an industry association based in Germany with most of the major kite companies as members. Detailed market statistics are available to members.
https://www.global-kitesports.org/
North is number one followed by Cabrinha (Neil Pryde) in kite sales.
