New Big Air / Airstyle Board...with 5th fin ... thoughts please

Postby lindseym » Sat Jan 06, 2018 7:08 pm

Fellow junkies,
I contacted a vendor to see if they had any 127 Radical boards left. They indicated that I should check out Ten Kiteboarding (www.ten-kiteboarding.com) since Flysurfer is working with them on their boards and "The Act" is apparently similar to the Radical. The Mark board - http://ten-kiteboarding.com/the-mark/ - looks very interesting it is specifically for Big Air. It has a 5th fin on the heelside edge to give it more grip. What do you guy think ? Would this fin actually work or do you think it would just be something that only increases drag and add little value?

Lindsey, i haven't been on a twintip in years, so I am merely guessing you'll be fine...it's the same designer. I'll see if I can find someone local (I live in the area) with first hand knowledge. Might be a while.

Hi Lindsey,

I tried the board in Brazil.

The shaper is Eddy Lansink who also did the Radical Boards from Flysurfer for many years (including my 2012 Radical)

I immediately felt home on the board. Jumping and landing is very smooth.
The pop is good, don't know what the difference is with or without 5th fin...

It has a good weight. As you know I don't like too light, but this board (132) has an excellent weight for KickFlip etc.

The straps are also very nice...can be made high and are still soft on the inside.

My Radical straps are a bit wider, which I prefer. But I have huge feet (47/13) so with smaller feet you don't have any problems at all.

All in all it is a very sweet board which I can recommend.

Excellent feedback - thx guys. My next purchase will be between this board (The Mark) or a 127 Rad which I did find online. I'll pay about $200 more for the Radical but am steering towards The Mark. I'll post here any reviews.

I haven't seen or ridden this board. But here's my thoughts. I have a mutant with 4 find in a quad set up mainly for wave riding and 1 find on the on the healside front for when I am riding out backwards and boost off waves. I can boost as high on one fin as a can on 4.......... The extra find make no difference.

On the Flydoor, makes riding downwind tricky and tie side nearly impossible, as it always wants to dig in and turn upwind... Good for milking the low end, and you can jump well, but it feels a bit limited. The Ten board fin looks shorter though, maybe it's not as bad.

I didn't feel any limitation in this regard

May simply be the size of the door and the size of the fin -- I think its 100mm. Oh and the pads being offset to the heel side edge...

I believe Ten can supply 2 different sized centre fin.
