I have a feeling that majority of us who actually pay for their equipment are in onshore. All I can say is: if you ever have a chance to test used kites that I mentioned, do it. If you get what I am talking about, the next time the industry releases one by accident, get on it, so we don't have burn money on something that doesn't work over and over again.

Out of interest (because I can't/don't surf) is this the behaviour that Real watersports list every now and again in their reviews. Every now and again with some of their kites, they make a thing about a kite where if you sheet out fully, the kite luffs and drops back in the window. They mention this makes it really suitable for wave riding.
Same thing? Or something else?

Similar but not quite, it. I like the kite to sit back but still fly and respond. What they describe is pulley bridle moving the kite back to the point it's like flying a garbage bag. Is it helpful, yes but doesn't compare to static bridle on the kite designed to fly back in the window.

I had a chance to test a surprisingly good delta kite lately. RRD Obsession MK8 9m, (thus 3 struts). This kite if not for a pulley bridle could be the most versatile kite of all. First, the kite sits back in the window but it is very efficient upwind, just the way I like them. Second, comes the biggest surprise, it jumps as high or higher than a Nitro. But the disappointment came in onshore waves. When you let the bar out the kite shoots upwind and overtakes you, because of the pulleys. This is why I like the set bridle. When you need to concentrate on riding waves and let the bar out the static bridle keeps the kite back in the window all the time.

NEO kites
1-can loop with out being junk of the board. Very good for onshore waves redirecting the kite to keep up with the wave
2- amazing upwind
3 relaunch is +1
until you don't buy one or try the kite for several days you don't know what you are missing
yes they can jump but it is not design for jumping. It is to assist you riding waves.
cheers

Any of you guys used both the Element 5 & Reo V4 in onshore conditions & can explain what +/- you experienced out of these two designs. (I have E5,s & looking to change to Reo,s).
Riding surfboards only please.

When the onshore wave conditions are for 9m I prefer E5 or old Catalyst. But in gusty 7m conditions Reo lack of power in the turns is a plus. For strapless freestyle when you do spins and loops, 9m Reo dead turns are better.

I'm with you on this. I am absolutely no expert but when I put my Enduro V2 where I want it in the window
it stays there.

For onshore waves you need high depower and good turning even when depowered. Drift not so important because you are riding the wave downwind. Since onshore waves usually not very good waves you need a fun kite that can let you do many things. Freeride kites are good for onshore.
This is the exactly reason that drift is the most important thing! No drift ability and your kite loose his lines tension and the kite will fall down.
Drift ability gives all-time tension and gives you ride the waves downwind.
