Nick is truly an old soul and great guy. His attitude about this is impressive and I'm sure he'll have a quick and clean recovery.

Depending on where and how his fibula is broken it will typically require plating, or a cast or splint, or if broken in just the "right place" a surgical sock and a pair of crutches.

Oh man and a hotel room right on the beach staring at the ocean too, haha. Torture.

That is what I did 10 months ago. Ligament usually snaps too. Immediately move back in with your parents is my advice if you can... It is a seriously sh1t injury to get.

Takes a year to fully heal usually. I can kite again but still only waveriding right now.

Big shame, but a long break and back into it after rehab!

Didn't kevin L do the same thing?

Kevin fractured his ankle. I'm bummed for Nick... so unfortunate. Has anyone seen Tonya around Cape??

In medicine a fracture and break are the same thing.

Good luck to him, everyone is different, but I was thinking 6 months when I was told a year back to full strength. I was pretty upset!

Recovery times can vary hugely.

Broke my left fib when I was crushed while wave sailing a large(ish) wave and didn't manage to get my front foot out of the strap before it broke on me. Sailing back to shore with a broken fib was fun. Not. But my wetsuit kept stuff roughly in place.

Told by the hospital that I'd broken it "nicely and in just the right place", walked out with a surgical stocking and crutches, and was back on (flat) water in 6 weeks and waves in 10. Luckily it was my left fib so I could still drive my auto car.
