There is a number of one strut kites on the market but it is hard to find the information about the actual weigth of those kites, an exception being Airush. Basically, I am looking for a (reasonably priced) one strut kite for foiling and general riding that is as light as possible but can also survive an occasional tomohawk and wave action. I have a list of some popular brands and their one strut kites and sizes (I am sure there is more). It would be great if you could share information about the kite weight and also your impression of the kite.
- Airush Ultra 5 (1.7 kg), 6 (1.8 kg), 7 (2.11 kg), 8 (2.19 kg), 9 (2.28 kg), 12 (2.8 kg), 15 (3.4 kg)
- F-one Breeze 11, 13, 15, 17
- Liquid Force Solo 3.5, 5, 7, 9 (2.7), 12 (3.4), 15.5, 17.5
- Naish Boxer 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (2.6 kg), 10, 11, 12 (3.1 kg)
- North Mono 3.5, 5, 7, 9 (2.8 kg), 12 (3.2 kg)
- RRD Emotion 3, 5, 7, 9, 10.5, 12, 14.5, 17 (3.6 kg)
- Zeeko Notus Air 8,12 (3.2)
Strutless (for comparison):
- BRM Cloud D 2.8 (0.97kg), 3.7 (1.08kg), 4.8 (1.25kg), 6.2 (1.42kg), 8 (1.65kg), 10.4 (1.93kg), 13.4 (2.3kg)
- Gong Strutless 9 (2.3kg), 12 (2.7kg), 17 (3.5kg)

Why not go strutless ? Willing to bet the Boardriding Maui Clouds come in as the lightest of them all ...

To make meaning of this comparison, weight them inflated to recommended PSI. Because air inside the tube has mass as well, different PSI and tube volume has effect. Inflate, put a hanging scale and read the readout. Unless you want the lightest kite only for travelling package.

A local has a strutless 17m Maui cloud. MASSIVE low down grunt, I had a go, swapped the guy for my nitro for 10 minutes. The maui cloud turns like a little kite but it pulls like a tractor, it's depower wasn't so good. Tried jumping it and didn't get so high but certainly it's light and a good bet for lighter winds. It may need it's own techniques...

Thank you for suggesting the BRM Cloud but in their website it says:
US shipping only / international service not offered
I am also not aware of any European distributors for BRM; Cloud prices are not exactly low and then I also need to add 21% tax since the product comes from the USA and then the price becomes unreasonable for me.

good topic, I would mostly like to know the weights of the listed kites in 12m (or bigger), because that's the size where their edge mostly is.

It won't be the North Mono range. My 12 came in at about 3.2kg and the 9 at about 2.8kg (sorry have deleted my photos when I sold these kites so working from notes I made) which is heavier than my 3 strutted Ocean Rodeo kites (3.05kg for 12m and 2.75kg for 10m).
I'd wager the Mono would do well in the tomohawk test. Of the 2, I'd be happiest with a drag launch over the beach on the Mono. Lots of reinforcement on that thing.

Switch element v6 4m is 1.6 kg. In line with what a scaled ultra would expect but heavier than an ozone uno 4m(1.3kg) or one strut brm cloud d 3.7m (1
2kg) 4.8m (1.4kg). Definitely more reinforcement than the brm but I still need to spend more time foiling with it before i decide how it compares.

Just noticed on the BRM cloud website that they now offer what looks like a one strut kite option. Not a cloud owner myself, just cloud-curious. Cheers
