Gasping for breath after crash?! Breathing how to?

Postby downunder » Tue Feb 13, 2018 3:41 am

Hey

lately, I started having some difficulties. The more complex tricks I do, the more I gasp for breath after!

Particularly after crashing. Sometimes struggle not to 'breath' water.

So, how do you do it? Do you breath just before the trick, exhaling after?

Or the opposite, exhale before the trick? Or do you breath while doing it? What is the 'right' way?

Cheers

D.

Think you might be thinking too hard about this. BUT

Yeah dude, breathe before the trick. Try to stay relaxed during/ after the crash. Having your mind in a panic mode is going to quicken your heart rate and speed up depletion of O2

:)

It is interesting question tho. In any sport we would know when and how to breathe. Do ski jumpers breathe IN before leaving the ramp? Or exhale just before? Lifting heavy weight, is it breathe IN before lifting or OUT? Try it, might be surprised.

I tried to breathe IN before the trick, and it's not working for me.

Interested to hear other experiences.

In/out ?
Out/in ?

Either but I highly suggest repeating regularly.

Are we talking breathing? ;)

Let's dig google:

Breathing Training - the science behind improved performance

Proper Breathing Can Improve Sports Performance By 15 Percent
.
.

Put it this way, I hardly believe that you're breathing in/out when doing 1080 high speed rotations. Hardly, coz this is a fast movement trick. Any fast movement trick, and no, you'll not be doing it...
Slow movement, yes. It is possible.

When doing the bench lifting, breathe IN just before lifting, breathe slow OUT when lifting. OUT is when you lift or push or pull.

That is the rule. Not the opposite. I'm not a ninja, they may not breathe at all ;)

How's that?

I don't do fancy tricks but sometimes when I'm boosting high there's a moment when I do that inhalation of surprise through my teeth :-D

And seriously... you should be able to hold your breath for at least 30 seconds anyway. A lot more if you're kiting Jaws!

My guess is that you're not breathing properly to start with, probably holding your breath during (relatively) long periods of concentration. To break this habit you should consciously focus on regular breathing throughout your sessions - after a while it will become second nature.

I used to hold my breath when I jumped (why?!) and the better I got, the bigger and longer the jumps, the more out of breath I was when I landed. Crashing was fun too...

Otherwise I can't help :D

Are you talking about crashing hard and being winded and unable to breath normally due to the impact? That's what I got from the question, but not from the answers.
