to be fair, I'm still waiting to read "how can a gadget improve your kiting?". Any gadget.

The only proper 'gadget' is a camera, which can tell you a lot. Also, let's not forget our kiting buddies. One buddy with a camera is worth 100(0) sessions with a gadget.

Have you all forgotten "an picture says more than 1000 words"? Why do you think all pros are heavily relying on videos! I recon Toby reviewed a million times his vids! No, he did not review a gadget results purely because they have no value as such. They are fun, don't get me wrong, but have no value.


Sorry, but after 2 years of using a gadget, I appreciate this: less is more. Less, as less things to worry about, maintain and care.

On this premises, buy whatever you want. However, I would be interested to hear the above answer after 200-400 sessions...

I got more than 200 sessions on woo
About to break 100km in total height..
I like to use it as my session log. The stats, together with a picture and short description (kite/size and overall impression) give good representation of the session.. I often use gopro to snap an action shot, so it's fun to browse through the old entries..
I am well passed trying to beat myself on every single jump.. I turn it on even when I know I won't be breaking any records...like going on 17m in 9kts.. it's still a log entry and a memory...
Now, you mentioned style... I'd argue that once you can jump over 40ft on woo with some consistency you'd have enough style to show.. I mean you could probably manage a board off, one foot ,some rotations, etc.. And no one said that once the woo is on you have to do just tabletops on each jump Even those can be done in style.. check Kevin's big woo jump at KOTA...

Thanks for all the feedback. I will take it into account before deciding which brand to buy. I've also found out that there are some good GPS-apps that I can use on my phone when riding mountains. Meaning that I won't need to have that in mind while buying

I've been thinking about buying an equipment that can measure my jumps. Specifically height and air-time. Should work on both snow and water. Would also be nice if it has GPS-tracking.

So, do I get myself Piq, Xensr or Woo; or do I have other options? Which one gives the most accurate result compared to price? And which one is easiest to use?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

And you're thinking to 'measure' your jumps? I'm not being a 'downer' but for ~$300 invest in more time on kiting, and not 'gadgeting'.

The reason being is that I rarely check my height any more, it's like 'yeah whatever it says' after the sesh. The added value is actually low, once you pass the initial purchase excitement. Yes, I see my mates scores, but whatever, it means nothing because it does not say anything about:

STYLE

I do not think it will improve your jumping abilities either. Others might disagree..

I'm sure my post count tells you everything about me, downunder. Like how I'm in the board organizing the Norwegian Snowkite Championship 2018. Or how I'm a frequent kiter in the biggest student group in Norway, with expertise from snowboard, surfing, wakeboarding etc. But yah, you know me, so I guess I don't need to tell you that this takes time spent elsewhere than the forum

You could say, this is what I do and this is what I'm trying to achieve. Have this and that experience or years of kiting. Simple really. This would say a lot about you, and would be able to help.



The number of posts is a general guesstimate of someones contribution on the forum. There is a fine line between a click bite and a genuine question.

I also have an Apple Watch with the sessions app from Xenser and its awesome. Sun you were spot on with your post fo sure!!! The best part is that I use my watch every d'ing day while those other devices just sit and do nothing. money well spent! I started sup surfing and it also counts my waves with the map and thats freaking rad. When I hit tahoe I use slopes and it tracks my snowboarding. really, why the heck would buy a woo pique or trace when you can do it all on your watch?

total conspiracy theory here - after my last post I was on the facebook and boom! i get a post from woo that they're adding watch apps to their product. they're f'ing watching us everywhere! LOL always, it got me thinking that if you already had a woo, this is kinda cool but the total setup is like $600!! WTF dude? really? f that - no need for the woo if you have the watch. they also showed the next version of the woo3 and tht thing is uuuugggeeeee! looks like you have to use it in a condom case now, wtf is up with that?

Priceless example of someone asking a question, getting some useful responses before the thread gets sidetracked by some form of localism based on the science of ‘post count’ as an Indicator of some such rubbish or other. Same philosophy would ban beginners I suspect. Lol.

I have a PiQ. I can’t jump for toffee, go rarely but it makes me happy. .

Moving on from baiting certain folk (guaranteed you’ll respond), Flixern, I thought this started out as a very interesting thread and did get some interesting feedback from those with actual insight from using the products...i.e. the objective of the thread. Boom.

And many pros and cons are presented. Still, some are offended by the fact that a gadget will not improve his/her kiting and investing $300 on time on water will (the OP asked for options).

But, to question the decesion in buying a 'happines' is a no no.


Says a lot about the sport, really. Sorry Airstylers, the gadgets are pushing for leaderboard scores coz that is easy to measure! We see that on many heats...

I've got the PIQ because it shows you the jump height right after and really that is what I needed to improve my jumping. The readout on the water works ~70% for me as the display shows only for ~15sec after the jump probably to save battery. With sun glare not always is possible to read it. Seeing stats after the session is not as helpful for me but good to see what was your top jump. Also I use it for tennis to analyze and improve my topspin % and my serve speed.
