Eleveight RS review

Postby bmcfiv » Fri Mar 09, 2018 10:44 pm

Alright, trying to contribute where possible. I use this site all the time so I plan on reviewing all new gear.

Just rode the RS14 for the first time... love it, super meaty!

I was looking for a third, low wind kite for my quiver (my other 2 are hybrid c's), and after trying a number of other kites, I tried the RS14 and felt like it was ideal for the type of conditions I'm looking for.

There is a lot of power. When you sheet in the power is immediate and significant. I believe it's good for beginners since it's a delta and bombproof, but coming off an NV and Zephyr, this kite is faster and more dynamic so should be able to keep intermediate and advanced entertained.

Flys middle of window, I believe makes a decent wave kite but not designed for it. Super steady. Very easy relaunch.

So the biggest surprise for me is it's ability to boost. In 18 kts I hit a small wave kicker and shot up 30 ft... that is ridiculous. Also, coming down felt like I was in an old folks home elevator. Basically a top end freeride kite.

Overall I highly recommend.

Pros
Boosting in light wind!
Bombproof
Responsive
Tons of power
Excellent quality
Value
Attractive

Cons
Bag could be a little bigger

Nice boosting and looping also in smaller size, I think 7m...

Yes,
well, as someone else noted, it might be bigger than the actual written size, depending on how you look at it :)

Just rode the 12m RS today. Looks about right to size I would say. Less grunt than my 12m XR5 but lighter bar pressure and quicker turning. As a pretty light guy at 165 lbs I actually like the lighter less grunty feel of the 12m. I had a harder time to feel where the kite is in the sky then on an XR5, might be due to less bar pressure or simply getting dialed in. All in all a really nice kite.

Yes, I had posted a review of the RS awhile back and love the kite. For me, nothing beats a North Rebel but I have to say that the RS is a close second. The range on those kites is insane. The only thing I would mention is that they can improve the bar a bit. The depower strap is kind of weird but I think they are going to make some significant enhancements in 19.
