Advice for first time buyer

Postby bwakile » Wed Apr 04, 2018 4:59 pm

Hello all,

I'm a beginner and am looking to buy my first set up but would love some advice from more knowledgeable people. I'm going for second hand as I can't afford a full set up new. I've found three kites I like the look of on thekitesurfcentre's website but need advice on size and brand. I'm 6 foot 2 and 83kg and would most likely be going to Hayling Island mostly. The kites I've found are:

https://shop.thekitesurfcentre.com/2013 ... 3573-p.asp
https://shop.thekitesurfcentre.com/10m- ... 3770-p.asp

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Most modern kites are good. These look like a good way for you to get into the sport.

As many others will say, lessons first, then make an effort to get in with a group of your local kitesurers. They will likely have better advice than you will get here on this forum as it will be tailored to your specific location.

Yup lessons first. Then ask the local riders what sizes to get, and then figure out what type of riding you are interested in to figure out which kite to be looking at. Most people are looking at all-terrain kites. The great thing about kites today is that there aren't really beginner kites (tho there are advanced ones). The traits beginners are looking for are usually also good for kiters that have developed some skills.

I tend to recommend Naish Ride or Naiss Pivots (I ride Pivots mainly myself) simply because I know and love those kites. You have to figure out the sizes yourself. :-)

I do think the kites you are looking seems pricey for being that old, but maybe someone else has a better feel for what used kites are priced at than me.

I can't say enough about how good LF Solo's are for beginners, the key thing is they fly amazingly well oversheeted and that's pretty much how beginners fly kites.

That being said they are a kite you wont out grow.
