Not sure but flotation and impact protection may be mutually exclusive. Just back from a kiting trip where a buddy bust a bunch of ribs, apparently due to the rigid panels in his flotation vest. Maybe somebody on this forum knows whether flotation has to be stiff and a compromise for taking impact?

My o'neill vest (see picture above) might not give me a lot of flotation, but it still helps. It's impact protection is fine. So no, they don't have to be mutually exclusive.
Just think of impact vests as impact vests...who give you some flotation: it's a bonus.

Decided to buy the ride engine kite specific crash vest. I like the center zip and the placement of the padding to help lock harness in.
They are sold out except for Small’s till the first week of June.
