Kite sizes for LA summer

Postby kalinovsky » Mon May 28, 2018 2:23 am

Hey guys,

I'm going to be in Santa Monica for a month at the end of June/beginning of July. I am going to bring my gear and need to decide what 2 kites to bring.

I'm 160lb. I can only take 2 kites. From reading it seems that winds are light, 15-25 mph. For me normally that would be 15m and 12m.

I have 15m Slingshot Turbine and 12m Evo. My other kite is 9m Evo but I don't think it's going to be enough wind. I normally use it when it's over 30mph.

And I'm thinking of taking my regular Shinn Monk board 137x42cm. Should I take my giant lightwind 48cm board instead?

Thanks in advance!

Santa Monica is not reliable for wind. Belmont Shore, Long Beach is. Check out http://scka.org for and Southern California Kiteboarding Association on facebook for local info. 12M and 15M should be safe and worst case, you can rent a kite from Bart at SoCal Kite Surfing on the beach.
