Referral for a good beginner kite instructor for the Bay Area

Postby BigSky » Sat Jun 09, 2018 11:03 pm

Hi. I have a friend that wants his 15 year old daughter to kite. She an accomplished sailor and he sees this as the progression. Any recommendations for an instructor that's good for beginners? I'm in Mass so I'm not familiar with the local scene although I love Crissy Field. Thanks

Track down Inanc Ino, he's a facebook user so available that way. Not sure what shop he's affiliated with down there but I think he's lined up with one or two plus kite camps etc. He's got a background as a gymnastics instructor so good with youngsters. He's not a take the money and run guy, has his priorities in line. I can't imagine a better instructor for a young sailor.

Kitopia (sandy,Donny) at Sherman island have always gotten really good feedback from people referred there.
Sherman is also a great place to learn if she can get there.

There are other schools near third ave but I am not familiar with any good instructors.

I will second the recommendation for Sandy / Kitopia at Sherman Island.

I personally took lessons from her a few years ago. She was very thorough, accommodating, friendly and safety oriented. I found the boat support and waterproof helmet radios were very reassuring and helpful as well. After the lessons, she offered advice regarding my first used equipment purchases.

Thanks everyone. Sandy name came up several times on both forums. I've passed along the information. Cheers.
