Duotone is an awful name. Ughh. True would’ve been much better. I guess I’ll be foiling on Duo Monos now

And now Duotone Windsurfing.
What's up with this "Duo" naming trend?

....so this brings a ton of questions for me.
Will north sails continue producing kites under North?
What happens to the team then? Will it split up?
Where will Duotone produce kites?
They used to be in the North factory right? Will they be produced there still? If not what can we expect in terms of quality.
Also why would you name a company after a color scheme? Oh well, in love, war and kiteboarding I guess all is allowed.

It all stays the same, just instead of North it's now Duotone.
Same team on land and on water.

"Duotone" will forever remind me of a 1950's doo-wop band (e.g., the Monotones, the Cleftones, the Quin-tones, Dick Dale and the Del-Tones, Kenny Vance and the Planotones, the Deftones (they aren't '50's or doo wop, but still have the name)......).
But I know "the Duotones" will produce some great kites. Shaboom, shaboom.

North Technology Group, a conglomerate of marine-industry companies that includes Southern Spars and Edge Water Powerboats. They own the Name NORTH and were licensing it to a German company "boards and more" for windsurf and kite-boarding products. There was a dispute over royalties. So "boards and more" had to use a different name for their products. The duotone branded products will be from the same team of engineers/designers as before. In the future North Technology group may buy a kite company to re-brand as North or re-license the North name to some other company for windsurfing and kite-boarding.

Do you know this for sure? I mean if I were North Sails or whatever the name is they have an advantage right now to license that name away again fast. To me that advantage is a short window. My point is that the incentive is there for the brand owner.

hmm..wait if you are a KB brand why on earth would you pay royalties on a brand name? I can see paying royalties for innovations to the product, but how strong is the North brand? I guess we'll find out, but damn, that sounds really weird unless there were some co-branding / distribution advantages to paying the royalty.
