2018 Spleene High Tech Door - experience?

Postby Sefiz » Fri Jun 15, 2018 8:18 am

Hi there,

there are new freeride kiteboards from Spleene. I am looking for a new lightwind twintip, so this seems a good match (as I like the stuff of that brand).

They say the Monster Door is 500 gramm lighter. How much would you rate the weight of a board? Is this a big advantage? I mean, 1 pound "less" sounds not bad :-)

I cannot say anything regarding the Spleene Monster Door as i never tried it, however a flysurfer dealer told me that at the end of this month or next month they are releasing the Flydoor6 which is a terrific lightwind board. You may want to wait for couple of weeks and see what they have.

I've always had a big TT in my shed.
I had a couple of the earlier doors which were ok, but the 2015 was not good in my opinion. Felt heavy and dull and 'glued' to the water.
Seems a fair bit has changed since then, but their dogmatic customer service response to my issue, means they won't be my first choice.
Not withstanding, the latest boards may be better?
I now have a Crazyfly LW and a Cruiser, both are ok boards.
The best TT I had and regret selling was a Flydoor from around 2012 163 X 46.
The flex tip gave it great wind range and the board just suited me....damn wish I'd never sold it!

Try before you buy, even if it means a bit of short term inconvenience, it's worth it!
Good luck with your choice.

I don't have any experience with other "door" boards, I only have the Spleene Monster, I'm a fan of it, it gets me out on light days, I've done the odd jump on it but it obviously isn't the best at leaving the surface.

It's amazing in chop, we have quite a lot of light wind but choppy days and I thought a big board would be a liability but it's great.

Again, I can't really compare but it's certainly not a bad board.

Oh forgot to mention, it's a total upwind machine, it just wants to ride upwind, I got worried one day I wasn't going to be able to get back to the beach riding onshore

Thanks for the input on that topic.

Any thoughts on weight in general on these big boards? Is it something you should look for or does it not count, if its 4 kilogram or 5 kilogram?

For the flydoor, this sounds also interessting, I will see what info I can find. At the end, I want the board soon, so time is running for me :-)

500 g on a kite is a big deal. On a board you won’t feel it in the water, only carrying it to the beach. Possibly hanging off your feet in the air or during board off tricks, but we’re talking light wind

Shape, fin and flex are so much more important. The same manufacturer will update a board and some will love it. Others think last years model was magic. I’m in love with my 2006 (I think) spleene session. There’s just not another one like it.

If at all possible I would demo the actual board.

I had the chance to try the boards and yes, I liked it. Runs smooth like silk through chop and feels very alive.
Decision is done, I will get one.

Now they have also the previous model on sale. Now its price vs nice for me. I guess I will go for the new model, as I really liked the ride and the deisgn :-)

I rode Spleene HT Door 59 (159x45cm) 2013 and loved it. Then I switched to larger Flysoor5 XL (170x50cm) and even though it’s a heavier board the little rocker on wingtips makes it rides smoother and feels “lighter”.
Can highly recommend either of those!

Any word if they are going to update the Flysplit as well?

Well certainly they should. The first Flyspit sizes seemed to be better.
Also Flysurfer might want to introduce a Race foilboard, a freeride foilboard and a pocket foilboard. I think these are in demand nowadays
