Naish Bar with Cabrinha Kites?

Postby txtph » Sat Jun 16, 2018 7:29 pm

Aloha all,

I've used Naish Kites over the past 5 years, mostly Parks but more recently Boxers. I've got several Naish Bars, the most recent is a 2017 BTB Torque.

MACKiteboarding has a special on 2017 Cabrinha Drifters and I jumped on a 12M to round out my mainland quiver. Its the only non-Naish kite I will have.

Anybody routinely use Naish Bars with Caabrinhas? Is there anything I need to do to make it work or are they interchangeable?

I'm assuming most modern bars are equal length lines.

Thanks . . . . . Tom Kite

You must attach a set of pigtails to your Drifter in order to reverse the loops and knots.
Naish bars have knots and Cabrinha bars have loops on the steering lines. I use Naish bars with my Drifters for more then 4 years. They are fully compatible if you reverse the knots and loops. I own only Drifters and I have reversed the bar lines but since you own many Naish kites you have to invert the steering lines and bridles of the Drifter.

Mitaka is right. I guess you could switch front and back lines on the bar, but then you'd lose the color coding which is a safety issue imo.

Why not treat yourself to a nice new Cabrinha bar- you're worth it!

I would go with the $10 Pigtail solution. The Naish bars are great :-)

agree on adapters. naish steering lines can be either pig tail or knot so that is flexible. just be careful about length as you use adapters. I remember once needing adapters only on only 2 of 4 lines and thinking I would always remember to use a different knot setting to counter the adapter length, but that can be hard to remember when you are rushing to get on the water. a couple centimeters is a big difference...

Okay but when you go canrinha bar to a Naish kite - once you set the pigtails, does the cabrinha bar have enough depower for a kite like
Pivot?

I use a Pivot with my Cabrinha bar and it works just fine.

Cabrinha bar are kind of bulky and over complicated. And the thick center line thing doesn't slide very well.

I (also) use cabrinha bars on naish kites.
I have Cabrinha Drifters for waves (smaller kites) and Naish Boxer (bigger kites) for foil.
I have a 2016 and a 2018 cabrinha bar. I use them with the Naish Boxer kites with no problem regarding steering etc. You specific asked to the Pivot. I haven't used that, but I would expect it to work with that kite as well.
As described, the loops and knots are reversed on Cabrinha/Naish.

If you only use Naish kites, then the cabrinha bars have 'pigtails' on the end of the lines that can be de-attached and reversed, so you will get a cabrinha bar that fit Naish kites (and not Cabrinha kites).

If you use both Naish and Cabrinha kites, I suggest to add pigtails on one of the kites brands to make them fit the same bar without any adjustment when you rig up. I have added pigtails to my Naish kites thereby switching loops and knots, so they are similar to Cabrinha kites.
Be aware that the pigtails should be equal length. My experience is that this is not possible if you buy a set of pigtails and just add them to the kite, because the pigtails are intended to extend the existing lines, not to reverse knots and loops. You will figure it out ones you have them in your hand. You can also make pigtails your self. Search the forum here, or google. My solution was a mix of self-made and some bought.

I do not find the cabrinha bars overcomplicated. I have fixed length, trimlite bars. These are great. I prefer them over the Naish bar with the wear in the trim line due to bar movement. I check my flag-out line regularly (since it is hidden inside the tube on the cabrinha bars). With the latest Naish bar, there is no wear due to bar movement, since tube(s) are used.

Kind regards, Mikkel
