Nitro 7 Proto Photos

Postby galewarning » Wed Jul 25, 2018 2:34 pm

Photos:
Blue kite is what would have been the Nitro 7.
I got to pump it up this past Friday, July 20th, in the Gorge. I was fully lit on a 7m and wisely let someone else much more talented take the proto Nitro 10m out for a spin.
Sorry for the low res phone photos. Also had to pixelate and crop tightly.
Note the spider bridle and saw-tooth TE.
Ciao, -Barry

EDIT: Wrong photo! This photo has a [not spider] different bridle. Unless it's a black widow inspired bridle
Another photo of the spider bridle on a white body 3-strut proto. Also with the sawtooth TE. Low res, sorry, but easier to see the bridle against the white canopy. I see the benefit of not wrapping the bridle around the wingtip. What else? If Bill's surfing around this forum, maybe he can chime in with thoughts on the bridle design...

The bridles on the blue kite look completely different to the white kite. The blue kite looks very "spider". The white not at all.

The white one looks as though it has a slider or pulley on the bottom bridle. Could be just the image though.

So what brand is the Black Kite for?

Let's try this again. This photo is the N7. Laying on grass, making it a challenge to see, and the bridle isn't fully taught, but it's all visible. Zero pulleys with this one. Sorry for the mix-up.

What is different from N6? IMO it was a good kite but not great. Just built too heavy - but again - just my opinion

Re: White kite bridle
@ OzBungy/Chicken-loop - Bill's white proto does indeed have a single pulley/side.

Re: Black kite
@ Chicken-loop - The day I was on the Sand Spit, Sam Light was hooked up to that black kite.

Re: Heavy Nitros
@ lewmt - Being a 5-strut kite, that accounts for some of the additional heft. I can't speak for Bill, but I don't think light weight was on the Nitro's design goal short list.

Edited: Not Sam Ireland or England... brain fade... Slingshot's Sam Light!

Leading edge looks pretty skinny.

Thanks - I was comparing them to other 5 strut kites like Ozone Edge & SS Turbine. Not in my post but out in the field. I thought they did great once fully lit but were pretty lackluster at the bottom 1/3rd of their prescribed range/size & hard to keep in the air in the bottom 10% of their prescribed range. I figured it was a function of weight but I'm not an aerodynamics engineer.

Am still curious if there are any noticeable performance differences between the N7 & N6's? Pictures don't say much about what may have changed other than colors
