I hav decided that the next step in my progress is to learn how to heliloop just before my landing to soften it up a bit, but everytime I try it the heliloop turns into a kiteloop and I'm flying downwind. Do I pull the bar too hard or too soft, at the wrong time or is my kite just not suitable for it (Naish Ride)? Any suggestions are welcome.
Maybe post a video of one of your loops? Lot of things can cause this, you need a clean takeoff with good lines tension and to keep the kite overhead when you start the loop. If you loop too early you will also fly downwind fast. Watch Anton Chernyshovs ultimate kiteloops on youtube, best tutorial I know.
Don’t loop before the apex (top of your jump) this is the recipe for a kiteloop! Try jump as high as possible and once you are going down loop the kite as hard as possible with your back hand (really move your bar in a vertical possition) this will make the the loop fast and give you a little lift to soften your landing. Once you get to know the feeling you can try loop it less fast which increases the power and will result in a bit more speed at your landibg which might be nice to continue your ride! Good luck! And btw Anton’s videos are really the best...give it a try!
Good jumping technique is to redirect the kite forward again to soften your landing and ride out of it. This means your kite will usually be towards the edge of the wind window just before landing and if you throw a cheeky kiteloop in this position it wont generate too much power in the loop. If however your kite is downwind when you throw the downloop i.e. the midde of the wind window you're going go for a downwind ride!
Anyway, watch the videos and it will make more sense
The timing of your loop is crucial, Try looping your kite just before you reach top of your jump.
Bad advise
I agree, that will be a powered Kite loop!
On your way down the Kite need to be behind you (under jump it, then pull forward) Or forward of you (then pull backwards)...then you can pull hard on the bar to get it looping over you.
I am sorry for a bad advice, I only knew kiteloop name, did not know that kiteloop above your head with little power is called heliloop.
Glad to have you all to advice tho.
