How to pack a travel bag

Postby skideeppow » Fri Aug 17, 2018 4:34 pm

I have an older Slingshot Golf Bag. Just seeing if any new innovative ways to pack a board in there so it does not get hammered.
I am flying out and currently have my galaxy foil with noodles on the edges, held in place with NRS straps. Bubble wrap? Anything else?

This board is brand new and really dont want to get any damage. was going to put two kites and my foil set up in there as well.

Thanks for any help.

I wrap my impact vest around the tip and westuit around the tail. Haven't had an issues yet other than regularly being over the weight limit

I wouldn't worry about a twintip, it's like a snowboard it's not going to get banged up. Here's a few tips though:

1. Take the fins out (yeah no sh!t)
2. Put your harness open under the board on the bottom, it fits well, and keeps your harness from getting bent over.
3. Pack your kites at the bottom of the bag, or fold them long ways so they are skinny and long running length of your kiteboard.
4. Take a repair kit

If you are taking a surfboard, then I would put a pool noodle around the nose, and wrap it in the kite. If it's a twintip, I've travelled with one probably 25 times, no problem.

Anyone have a suggestion as to how to pack the new harnesses like ride engine that are curved and don't lay flat?

We pack our harnesses in our clothes suit cases. Pack small items around it like tshirts or undergarments

Curb checkin and waving a $20 is your friend.

I put my harness at the bottom end (when stood up like a golf bag/ the wheels end) and use it as padding for the nose/tail of the board. Rigid harnesses tend to be lower profile so they fit standing upright into the bag like that without a problem. I wrap some bubble wrap around the spreader bar just in case but its probably not needed.

Zip by your local PepBoys and pickup some of this:

It's called wire loom - 5/8" or 3/4" diam. Enough to wrap your board's edge around. Been using that stuff for years and never had a damaged edge, but I've seen some nasty stuff from other kiters who used no protection. And no, kiteboard's edges aren't the same as snowboard's edges - if anything - they've got thiner and more fragile over the years and at current prices - any kind of protection is a good idea.

Cheers.
