Upgrading to a new board

Postby Brucey » Sat Aug 18, 2018 9:00 am

I have been kiting a little over a year now and im in the process of learning jumps. With lets say a 1 in 10 success rate for small jumps. I currently have an airrush vox 140 board. Which feels cumbersum and heavy. After picking up another kiters north gonzales i realised juat how heavy my board was. I am thinking of upgrading to something that will help me improve faster. I surf in camber sands, England where it is always choppy and rough so I am looking for something that handles the chop but still has upwind ability and a bit of pop. So many boards seem to say they do it all but a lot of that seems marketing speak. Im 75kg usually on a 12m LF solo in 15 -20knts. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks

Wait not sure what you're asking. But for a TT...Naish .monarch

You'll go through the same steps we all walked... wanting smaller and smaller boards. Then go slightly bigger. Just make the leap now get the monarch. Its reasonably aggressive, but very controllable and still soft enough to keep control IN SUPER CHOPPY CONDITIONS.

Nobile 2HD, very confortable, no spray in the eyes, full control in high speed and good pop. Test one if possible!

Hi Leon. I have been having a good browse of the forum before asking. A lot of people are asking about size. Or comparing 2 boards. I havent boiled down to two boards as there is just too many to choose from. I'm just wondering what other people tend to like for these conditions. It may be that I am too keen to change board too soon and should stick to my current one for a few more years. I just don't know if people hang on to their beginner gear for a long time.

Hello mate. The Monarch is a lovely looking board with great pedigree as is the CF Raptor Ltd which I’ve craved for years; the latest model is easier to spot as well when body dragging; the older all black (but still gorgeous) models are harder to spot in the Camber conditions, but cheaper. If jumping is your thing, you may wish to perfect the art with a board you’re not worried about losing occasionally rather than a 400-500 beauty which may send you into a panic because its colour scheme makes it impossible to spot when Camber’s unique swell/waves keep breaking over your head and your kite’s hovering over the exposed wreck. I speak from experience nearly losing a demo Shinn Monk.

I ride a number of boards but another to add to your research is the North/Duotone X-Ride given Camber is a local spot. Don’t get the 2018 pads if you can avoid it as they’re a pain in the arse to adjust in the water.

Get in touch with the local Camber Kitesurf or kite centre to see if you can demo?

Good luck

Thanks apollo. Thays very helpful. I have had to search for my board a few times after wiping out. Luckily it is garish bright green so isn't too hard to spot in the brown water. I will try and give the x ride a demo as I'm sure camber kitesurf centre stock it. Thanks again
