One of the better kiters I know indulges regularly and rips it up, but generally the exception, congrats to SAF
OT: Where did you find that thumbs up? I (still) cannot find it in the smilies?
Edit: Nevermind, it is just :
thumbsup : . Guess you have to know HbbCode (or whatever this markup syntax is called) to be able to use it .

Legalization is fine with me. But I prefer not have stoned kiters on the water when I'm kiting, or stoned drivers on the road when I'm driving.
"Hold my joint and watch this..."
In theory you'll only be allow the smoke at home, not in public places. Still won't stop people from smoking right before hitting the road (and anything not fast enough to get out of the way).
in Canada the laws for driving high are big time when its legal mouth swab same as driving drunk lots of ppl with likey get DUI so glad i quit smoking 2 ish years ago wayy more $$$ over all plus way more happy no one understands how much better being sober is unless u quit for at least a year life really gets amazing

I once heard about a study using airplane flight simulators. Trained pilots were tested on the simulators to determine if alcohol impaired their performance. The results showed that pilots performed best after 1-2 drinks. No drinks or more than 2 drinks resulted in lower scores. The explanation was that 1-2 drinks relaxed the pilots, but was not enough to impair reaction times. Not sure if this is true, but the kiter who told me about the study relied on it to justify a couple of beers before every session.
This much is true of alcohol. Liquid confidence leads to better performance. Up to a point of course.. Too much and motor control starts to suffer.

Bei sure the ones that want to be stoned during a session are already stoned.
And driving rules apply as always...like drinking.
That's true. As a Cape Town local I can confirm that there are numerous locals, ages 27 to 68 (the 68 year old is a legend and rolls joints the size of boerewors) and from all walks of life, who get baked before a session. One common denominator however is that they are all very experienced watermen. Every single last one I know of. Otherwise I suspect the Atlantic will chew you up and spit you out.

How funny us this thread encouging drug and alcohol use before kiting. I'm not saying Americans have a drug problem but...
Half the kiters at most beaches are dangerous going in a straight line. Good luck with getting them on it before they head out at your local...

Americans don’t have a drug problem, we have plenty of drugs. So much so, we don’t even know what most of them do.
Or were you complaining we have too many and you need some?
OK, we do have a small drug problem. They’re too expensive.

I'm anti weed. I know too many nice people who have either developed bi-polar or had it worsened by weed use.
Drugs also wire your brain wrong, it teaches the brain to go for the easy out instead of putting the hard yards in. eg. getting high vs meditation and working out, to deal with the pressures of life.
All the gf's I had who did drugs were the flakiest and the least reliable. Their brains were wired to jump on the next new thing instead of working out issues.
