i have had a bruise over my cheek bones, definitly can't let it hang around your neck on tether, after landing a jump it will swing and hit you in the face and it hurts :o

I bring one of those on vacation but usually i try to fit a helmet.

The ones that don't look like a snorkel (e.g. official gopro) fold and hook over the harness hook when not in use a lot easier. You can also use them as a tripod stand if you want to film stuff from a stationary point.
This.

The snorkel one I tried was terrible. I couldn't breath well and it was very uncomfortable.
This style isn't super comfy for extended periods either.....

but when not it use the mouth part folds down and will tuck in securely to my tensioned harness webbing and be completely out of the way. It's nice to have the cam setup with the one touch record and just pop it in when you want to film friends or something interesting. Use a floaty for sure.

I used to use the Pro Standard Grill Mount and it's comfy in your mouth due to the boil & bite but it hangs a bit too low so the camera hits stuff if you look down. It also lacks a secure way to store it when not in use.

Now I use the official GoPro Bite Mount and it's great. It's not as comfy in the mouth but it's much higher up and the big feature is being able to securely clip it to my impact vest when I'm not using it. I use the official Vented Bike Helmet Mount wrapped around one of my impact vest's shoulder straps.

I use a session 5 with the floaty so it's pretty soft on your face when you bail.

I use a $10 one from amazon and made sure that it has big enough breathing holes, so that isn't a problem. Jaw gets tired after a while but I can usually ride with my jaw relaxed enough, and only bite when filming to keep it steady. I keep mine on an elastic necklace that it came with, but find that just taking it out for a minute or two and stretching my jaw around is enough to ride for a while longer with it again. There may be a difference between the bite pieces though. I never ride with it for more than an hour or so since that's about how long my battery lasts on my hero 3 black ed.

Never had any problems with it hitting me in the face, and i've taken some big waves on the head with it. The biggest problem really is that you want to inhale when coming back up for air, and there's often water inside the holes, so you might suck some water in. I definitely had to learn to spit first before taking a breath to get all the water out.
